‎Het oeuvre van Ysbrant (1937- 2021) straalt levenslust en sensualiteit uit. Hij was geen orthodoxe graficus, maar bracht zijn emotionele wereld tot leven via een combinatie van zijn schilderkundig kunnen en grafische technieken. Zijn prenten zijn vaak in kleur gedrukt of handgekleurd met aquarel en zilver- of goudblad. De composities zijn meestal vurig en soms ook intiem en teder. Expressieve vrouwenfiguren, met vlechten en in rijkelijk geplooide jurken zijn dominant aanwezig in Ysbrants onstuimig oeuvre. Naast zijn schilderijen en zijn werken voor het theater, maakte Ysbrant etsen, steendrukken en linografieën. Samen met zijn dierbare vriend, de dichter Remco Campert realiseerde hij verschillende bibliofiele uitgaven.‎

‎Tijdens een persconferentie in het Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam in november 2018 onthulde de auteur van dit boek dat een van de twee enige bekende foto's van de schilder Vincent van Gogh eigenlijk een foto van diens broer Theo is. Het onderzoek dat tot die onverwachte ontdekking geleid heeft, bracht ook volkomen nieuwe anekdotes, boeiende ontmoetingen en plotwendingen met zich mee, die niet zouden misstaan in een thriller. Na die eerste vondst kwam Yves Vasseur in contact met de nakomelingen van Samuel Delsaut. Die had in 1958 op zijn zolder in de buurt van Mons twee tekeningen ontdekt, die later aan Van Gogh werden toegeschreven en vandaag in de National Gallery of Art in Washington bewaard worden. De archieven van de familie Delsaut ontsluierden een hele plot, waardoor er twijfel ontstond over de authenticiteit van die tekeningen. Ze bevatten ook een uitgebreide briefwisseling tussen Carlo Delsaut, de zoon van Samuel, en Paul Gachet, de zoon van dokter Gachet, de behandelende arts van Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise. Op basis van die correspondentie kon de auteur dan weer de geschiedenis achterhalen van zowel een onbestaand schilderij van Van Gogh, als van een verdwenen schilderij van Paul Gachet? Dit boek is een onderhoudende les in historische kritiek. In deze tijden van fake news wil het een basis vormen voor de uitwisseling van gedachten, zodat een onderscheid kan gemaakt worden tussen informatie en geruchten, tussen het werk van een journalist en een reclamestrategie, tussen de vervalsing van wat waar is en de passieve aanvaarding van wat onwaar is.‎

‎Summary As one of the most widely used products of Charlemagne's religious and cultural reforms, the homiliary of Paul the Deacon is a unique monument in the history of Western Europe. Completed around AD 797, this collection of patristic homilies and sermons shaped the religious faith and liturgical practices of the churches in Carolingian Europe and those of countless other churches over the course of a millennium of use. Until now, scholarly study of the homiliary has rested on seven partial witnesses to the collection. This study, however, draws on over 80 newly identified witnesses from the Carolingian period, while providing a brief guide and handlist to hundreds of later manuscripts. It replaces the current scholarly reconstruction of the homiliary, discusses the significance of the collection's liturgical structure and provisions, and considers the composition of the homiliary in the context of Charlemagne's reforms and Paul's patron-client relationships. The study also brings together evidence for the production and use of this text in thirty-three Carolingian monasteries, cathedrals, and churches.
