‎De schilder en boer Felix de Boeck (1898-1995) presenteerde zich graag als mystiek aangelegde eenling. Op zijn boerderij in Drogenbos, nabij Brussel, leefde hij op afstand van de artistieke ontwikkelingen in de hoofdstad. In tv-programma?s als Ten huize van of in zijn memoires ?Mijn leven en werk? benadrukte hij dat hij wilde ?sterven in het bed waarin ik geboren ben?. Toch verwierp hij het romantische beeld van de schilderende boer. Het boerenbestaan was voor hem juist een manier om zijn onafhankelijkheid als kunstenaar te waarborgen. De Boeck maakte als volwassene twee wereldoorlogen mee. Hij ontving een groot aantal schilders, dichters en politici op zijn boerderij en maakte portretten van Gandhi, Roosevelt en zelfs van Hitler. De ontwikkeling van De Boeck van figuratieve naar abstracte kunst is in dit boek verweven met de politieke ontwikkelingen in Vlaanderen. De wijze waarop de Belgische overheid na de oorlog omging met het verleden frustreerde hem sterk. Hij zocht aansluiting bij een alternatieve, Vlaams-katholieke kunsttraditie. David Veltman kreeg voor dit boek inzage in het omvangrijke privé-archief van De Boeck, maar hij raadpleegde ook talrijke archieven van collega-kunstenaars, kunstinstellingen en het naoorlogse krijgsgerecht. Zo wist hij het turbulente leven van De Boeck tot een samenhangend verhaal te smeden. David Veltman werkte aan deze biografie als doctoraatstudent bij het Biografie Instituut (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). In diverse bundels en tijdschriften publiceerde hij artikelen over Belgische 20e eeuwse biografie en geschiedschrijving. Hij was acht jaar werkzaam in het Haarlemse veilinghuis Bubb Kuyper.‎

‎Publication à l'occasion de la réouverture du musée Meunier à Bruxelles. Constantin Meunier, né à Etterbeek (Bruxelles) le 12 avril 1831 et mort à Ixelles (Bruxelles) le 4 avril 1905, est un peintre et sculpteur réaliste belge, réputé pour sa vision du monde ouvrier. D'abord peintre de scènes religieuses, Constantin Meunier est profondément marqué par sa visite, du Borinage, le pays noir, bassin minier de la province de Hainaut en Belgique, il s'attachera à représenter le monde du travail. C'est au retour d'un séjour de six mois en Espagne, que la sculpture occupera une place de plus en plus grande dans son ouvre. Envoyé à Durant les dernières années de sa vie, il exécute les sculptures destinées au Monument au Travail. Projet qui ne sera érigé à Laeken qu'après sa mort. Auguste Rodin dit de lui : « Constantin Meunier est un homme admirable. Il a la grandeur de Millet. C'est un des plus grands artistes du siècle. » Meunier est d'ailleurs membre de l'International Society of Sculptors, Painters and Graversque dirige Rodin. Un fonds de ses ouvres est conservé à Ixelles au musée Constantin-Meunier aménagé dans l'atelier de l'artiste. Ses bronzes ornent des places et les parcs de Belgique et d'Europe. Publication à l'occasion de la réouverture du musée Meunier à Bruxelles. Ce musée est géré par le MBA Bruxelles.‎

This museum is located in Ixelles in the house-cum-studio of artist, painter, sculptor and draughtsman Constantin Meunier (1831-1905). The items on display trace more specifically the evolution of the master between 1875 and 1905, this "second life" in his own words, during which his Realist talent focused more on the social and industrial aspects of Belgium, first through painting and drawing and then, from 1885 onwards, with his return to sculpture to become one of the greatest artists of the genre. Paintings like The Broken Pot are echoed by important sculptures like The Hammerer, a whole people of plaster and bronze that deeply marked his day and continued to influence Realist art well into the first decades of the 20th century. HISTORY OF THE COLLECTION Constantin Meunier (1831-1905) had this beautiful housecum-studio built towards the end of his life. Sheltering an extensive collection of over 700 works, the house was acquired by the Belgian state in 1936 and opened to the public in 1939.
