September 1884 mit der goldenen Medille des Kronprinzen belohnt worden". - Guldberg (1854 - 1908) arbeitete zur Zeit der Publikation am Zoologischen Museum in Oslo. 1888 wurde er Professor für Anatomie an der Universität Oslo. - Mit Besitzerstempel auf dem Titelblatt. Innendeckel mit Schenkungsvermerk des Verfassers (?). - Einbandrücken mit Klebestreifen überklebt.

This work marks the beginning of scientific teratology. First edition, illustrated with altogether 36 (21 folding) engraved plates, complete. Haller himself esteemed this work as among his best productions. In fine contemporary full calf bindings. “The numerous plates contain his highly exact, clear, and striking representations of anatomical preparations” (Eimas). “With the many scientific corrections which Haller was able to present to anatomists, owing to his exact investigations and to his studies under Albinus, he was bound to make pictorial representations of anatomic preparations the main object of his care. His illustrations are therefore very numerous. They are very clear, vivid, highly exact, and artistic. The greater part of them had been scattered through his many writings and these were later collected by Haller himself under the title «Opera minora...». Blake 404. – Vgl. Garrison-M. 1453 und HOH 1103 für die erste Ausgabe in Latein von 1789. – Scarpa (1747–1832) war Schüler von Morgagni und wurde bereits mit 20 Jahren Professor in Modena, später auch in Pavia. In diesem Werk beschreibt und vergleicht Scarpa das Gehör und Geruchsorgan bei Fischen, Vögeln und Reptilien und dem Menschen. Die Tafeln wurden von Scarpa gezeichnet. Er beschreibt zum ersten Mal das von ihm entdeckte heutige Labyrinth sowie die ebenfalls von im festgestellte Endolymphe und den Nervenverlauf vom Innenohr bis zum Gehirn. – Durchgehend, vereinzelt auch stärker, stockfleckig, die Tafeln nur vereinzelt. Einband stark beschabt. – Sehr selten!
