Of the English edition of 1629, Cockle says ""This work, though in advance of anything so far written on the subject in English, does not attain to the standard of Thibourel and Appier. Bdg. somewhat worn. Internally a bit of brownspotting and occationally a little soiling, but overall fine. Engr. frontispiece (= engr. t-p. dated 1707), 8 full-page engr. plates and 3 about half-page engr. vignettes. (6), XVIII, 394, (6) pp.‎

‎This is the Dutch reprint (in French) (also called the ""pirated edition"") of the first edition from 1706/07, with the engraved title-page from this. The second edition appeared in 1747. ""In 1741 Neaulme issued a pirated edition which again, apart from variations on the title-page, is identical to the 1706 edition. Encouraged by this pirated edition Frezier wrote a second edition which appeared in 1747 in three differing versions."" (C. Philip, p. 59). Very important reference-work on firewirks. ""Frezier was probably one of the most important pyrotechnics in the mid 18th century..."" (C. Philip, p. 58). He borrows heavily from other authors, but his works are interesting, also as they scrupulously cite the sources. The plates show different kinds of fireworks, with many illustrations on each and the vignettes show displays of fireworks, as this work also deals much with the conduct and displaying of these. ‎

Titlepage with a stamp and a small hole after erasing an old name, no loos of text. Engraved frontispiece. LIV,(2),496 pp.13 engraved plates and 3 fine textengravings. Printed on good paper, internally clean and fine with very broad margins so that this work normally have 8vo- size now appears in 4to size (25,5x20 cm.).‎

‎Second edition of this treatise of fireworks for celebration, the first edition issued in 1706. There was a pirated edition in 1741. Frezier was encouraged by this pirated edition and he issued his second edition, which appeared in 1747 in three different versions by different printers. (Chris Philip F 110.5).‎

‎First edition of this rather unusual treatise on spiders in which Quatremère-Disjonval explores the relationship between spiders and weather conditions he used spiders as an indicator for atmospheric variations. Quatremère-Disjonval (1754-1830) was banished by Napoleon after the bankruptcy of his cotton spinning mill. Exiled to the Netherlands, he was imprisoned in Utrecht for his peculiar ideas and research. During his imprisonment, he studied the behavior of spiders. It was through atmospheric predictions derived from the behavior of spiders that Quatremère-Disjonval warned Jean-Charles Pichegru, French general, in the winter of 1795 of an impending severe frost, which trapped the Dutch fleet in the ice of the Zuiderzee and thus allowed the French armies to invade the Netherlands without resistance. This prediction earned him his release.‎
