‎This is the second German edition (the first from 1749 was abridged) by the famous French astronomer and geographer Jean Picard, who was the first to measure the lenght of a degree of a meridian. It is the first appearance of Lambert's 8 tracts where he treats the measuring with the water-levelling instruments mathematically, and applies some of the principles he introduced in his epochal work on theoretical carthography in 1772. The book has de la Hire's ""Vorrede"". - Not in Rosenthal, Litteratur der Technologie (only 1749 ed.). - Poggendorff II:442 (as part of Picard's ""Nivellement"").‎

Dopo l'uscita del secondo volume (1780) fu stampata un'ulteriore errata che si trova aggiunta in alcuni esemplari. Cfr. Brunet,IV,667: cet ouvrage a eu beaucoup de succès - Poggendorff, p. 455."Il milanese Ermenegildo Pini (1739-1825), barnabita, professore di matematica quindi di storia naturale alle Scuole arcimboldiche in Milano, fu Membro dell'Istituto del Regno Lombardo-Veneto e della Società Italiana. Nel 1773 si dedicò a visitare, con il confratello p. Luigi Francesco Fontana, diversi istituti scientifici e musei di Vienna, e anche le più importanti miniere d'Ungheria: nel 1778 fu nominato delegato alle Miniere della Lombardia austriaca e, nel 1779, soprintendente alla Metallurgia (fra tutti i suoi studi, si vedano: Osservazioni mineralogiche su la miniera di ferro di Rio ed altre parti dell'isola d'Elba, Milano 1777 - De venarum metallicarum excoctione, Milano 1779-80).Da allora in poi si occupò di mineralogia e geologia naturale, dando lustro anche ai musei di Pavia coadiuvando l'abate Lazzaro Spallanzani e di Mantova, provvedendoli di nuovi e preziosi minerali. Con il decreto napoleonico di soppressione delle congregazioni religiose del 25 aprile 1810, egli poté comunque continuare a dimorare a S. Alessandro, insegnando chimica e storia naturale fino al 1812. Entrò così di diritto nella storia della cultura scientifica lombarda che vide eccellere particolarmente i barnabiti nel Settecento. ‎Distinto in un vago e bellissimo partimento tutto ripieno della dottrina de' più celebrati Medici & Filosofi; con molte belle Historie Naturali. appresso Gio. Battista Vscio, Venetia, 1587. In-16 gr. (mm. 198x148), p. pergamena coeva, 4 cc.nn., 162 (ma 152) pp.num. (omesse nella numerazione le pp. 145-154); marca tipografica al frontespizio (in cornice: porta con architrave sorretta da colonne. Motto: Iusti intrabunt per eam). La parola TRATTATO del titolo ha il carattere tipografico A rovesciato.Nell'opera non solo tutte le virtù, & i vitij di quelli minutamente si palesano; ma anco i rimedij per correggere i loro difetti copiosamente s'insegnano: tanto nell'apparecchiarli per l'uso, quanto nell'ordinare il modo di riceverli.Simon ritiene l'opera del Pisanelli uno dei più celebrati trattati di dietetica del suo tempo. Comprende liste di cibi e di vini suddivisi per categorie (selvaggina, pesce, frutta, verdura, condimenti, vini rossi e bianchi, ecc.) e descrive le loro proprietà nutrizionali, la storia naturale e altro ancora.
