Le premier livre de Neel Doff (1858-1942, écrivaine hollandaise de langue française installée en Belgique,). Octave Mirbeau, qui l’année précédente avait noté dans la préface de Marie-Claire de Marguerite Audoux, « tout y est à sa place » aurait pu employer les mêmes termes pour parler de Jours de famine et de détresse (1911), pour lequel il se battit afin qu’il obtienne le prix Goncourt. Dans ces textes courts au dur langage, d’une impeccable perfection formelle, Neel Doff faisait le récit implacable de son enfance misérable dans les taudis d’Amsterdam et de Bruxelles où elle échappa au trottoir en deve- nant modèle. Elle continua le récit de sa jeunesse à Bruxelles dans Keetje (1919) et Keetje trottin (1921), et jamais la grande bourgeoise qu’elle finit par devenir n’oublia ses frères de misère. Delapierre, relieure belge formée à l’École de la Cambre n’a relié que pendant quelques années dans les années 1960 (Bibliothèque Royale de Belgique, Le Livre au féminin, 63). Bel exemplaire à l’état de neuf et non rogné de ce livre essentiel, d’une grande rareté en grand papier.‎

‎First monograph on this Belgian artist. In his work, Vincent Geyskens examines the position of painting in contemporary society. Abstraction, figuration, a variety of media and styles of painting are engaged with as he probes their possibilities and limits. The exhibition at M will place the spotlight on the breadth of his experience and will gather together diverse series and types of work produced over the course of his oeuvre.
