‎Volg Wassily Kandinsky op zijn reis van het impressionisme naar de abstracte kunst Wassily Kandinsky (Moskou 1866-Parijs 1944) is van niet te onderschatten betekenis geweest voor de kunst. Zijn ontwikkeling verliep van figuratief, bijna impressionistisch werk, naar een organische, hybride vormentaal. Dit boek laat de artistieke weg van de Russisch-Franse kunstenaar zien. Hij was een van de pioniers van de abstracte kunst die de kunstwereld op zijn kop zette. Kandinsky werd geboren in tsaristisch Rusland, vestigde naam als leraar aan het vermaarde Bauhaus in Duitsland, ontvluchtte het fascisme en kwam terecht in Frankrijk waar hij tot Fransman werd genaturaliseerd. Oorlogen, crises en revoluties hadden hun beslag op de kunstenaar. Zijn onwaarschijnlijke levensverhaal is terug te zien in de rijkdom van zijn kunst. Dat er zoveel van hem bewaard bleef, is te danken aan zijn weduwe Nina. Zij schonk kunst en archiefstukken aan de Franse staat. Daar kwamen ze terecht in Centre Pompidou, een van de grootste musea voor moderne en hedendaagse kunst ter wereld. Dit boek verschijnt bij de tentoonstelling in H?ART Museum. Het museum laat topstukken zien als Mit dem schwarzen Bogen (1912), Accord réciproque (1942) maar ook het levensgrote Salon (1922). Het is de reconstructie van het Bauhauswerk dat tijdens het bombardement op Berlijn verloren ging.‎

‎Daniel Colin was born in 1963 and was primarily influenced creatively by the 1980s growing up. The 1980s were a tumultuous period culturally, and were marked by growing global capitalism, global mass media, significant discrepancies in wealth, alongside a distinctive sense of music and fashion, epitomised by electronic pop music and hip hop. Artists growing up during this time were heavily influenced by this cultural atmosphere. The 1980s were a significant decade politically, marked by the African Famine and the end of the Cold War, which was signified by the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Neo Geo and The Pictures Generation became leading art movements during the decade, alongside Neo-Expressionism which became well-known in Germany, France and Italy (where it was known as Transavanguardia). Artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Jörg Immendorf, Enzo Cucchi, Francesco Clemente and Julian Schnabel were leading artists of the era, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, who established the street art and graffiti movements.‎
