‎publicatie over de abstracte werken van de jaren 50 van Paul van Hoeydonck , Paul van Hoeydonck is een Belgisch beeldhouwer, schilder, tekenaar, collagekunstenaar en graficus. In 1941 volgde hij aan de Academie in Antwerpen een avondcursus tekenen en hij werkte later in het tekenatelier van Jos Hendrickx Behaalde graduaat kunstgeschiedenis aan het Kunsthistorisch Instituut in Antwerpen, en ook aan het Instituut voor Kunstgeschiedenis en Oudheidkunde in Brussel volgde hij cursussen. Vanaf 1955 volgt een korte periode geometrisch abstract, Paul Van Hoeydonck wordt lid of medestichter van de groepen "ArtAbstrait", "Formes" en "Art Construit". In 1957 creeert hij zijn eerste monochrome wit abstracte "Lichtwerken". ‎

‎Edouard Fiers is n van de gerenommeerde 19de-eeuwse Ieperse kunstenaars. Hij is geboren in 1822 in Ieper. Eerst volgt hij les aan de Ieperse Academie. Dankzij de financi le steun van de stad kan hij zijn artistieke opleiding, samen met enkele andere Ieperse kunstenaars, verder zetten in Brussel. Hij ontwikkelt er een stijl die nauw aansluit bij zijn neoclassicistische leermeesters. Nieuwe stromingen in de beeldhouwkunst laat hij aan zich voorbijgaan en hij kiest voor de klassieke traditie. Na zijn studies blijft Fiers in Schaarbeek wonen. Ondertussen wint hij enkele belangrijke prijzen en wordt zijn werk getoond op roemrijke salons, vooraanstaande tentoonstellingen en in nieuw opgerichte musea. Uit erkentelijkheid voor de financi le steun van de stad bij zijn artistieke opleiding, schenkt hij afgietsels van al zijn belangrijke beelden aan de stad. Het toenmalige Stedelijk Museum verzamelt op die manier een groot deel van het oeuvre van Edouard Fiers. Helaas blijven na de impact van de Eerste Wereldoorlog slechts drie werken bewaard. Vanaf 1927 wordt de collectie verder uitgebouwd en bevat vandaag zo een mooi overzicht van het oeuvre van Edouard Fiers, zowel chronologisch als stilistisch.‎

‎Starting point for Dheedene?s work which consists of a series of drawings on beer mats, was the logo of the Soci t Gerenerale Bank, an icon of Dheedene?s childhood, which stood for certitude and stability. Through these drawings, the artist analysed, mingled and reassembled the form of this logo to compose new forms. He chose this specific support because of the ideal format and the specific texture of the raw material. The round corners of the mats easily invite to rotate them. The drawings resulted in a series of collages, exposed in an exhibition and an artist book. Both were entitled Walks, a reference to the many walks the artist undertakes himself, but equally to the walking of the pencil on the limited surface of the pre-determined support.‎

‎Marten Melsen werd te Brussel geboren op 11 juli 1870. Hij was een echte Brusselaar met roots in de Antwerpse Polder en Ossendrecht (Nederland). Voor een uitgebreide biografie kunt u terecht op http://martenmelsen.free.fr/index_N.htm Na eerst in 1894 een lange zomerperiode met een vriend-kunstschilder rond Stabroek en Berendrecht te hebben geschilderd n gefotografeerd, beslist Melsen om rond 1896 permanent naar Stabroek te trekken. Hij huurt een stuk in de driewoonst van de enorme boerin Mie Pot, die hij daarna regelmatig op zeer sappige en originele wijze heeft vereeuwigd op doek. Melsen?s oeuvre wordt bekend, hij verkoopt vanaf 1907 aan musea en wordt bevriend met Stijn Streuvels en James Ensor. Na zijn huwelijk in 1909 met de nicht van zijn boezemvriend, de befaamde toondichter August De Boeck, koopt hij rond 1912 twee huisjes aan het Hoogeind te Stabroek, die hij liet ombouwen tot kunstatelier ?t Vossevelt genaamd. De daarop volgende prille gezinsjaren worden een mooie periode van regelmatige tentoonstellingen en persoonlijk succes, dat plots door elkaar geschud worden in het oorlogsjaar 1914 door het drama van het verschrikkelijk conflict, dat jaren gaat duren. Deze thematentoonstelling in het Poldermuseum toont hoe de kunstenaar tijdens die harde oorlogsjaren heeft kunnen overleven, waarin hij nieuwe inspiratie heeft gevonden, en welke kunstwerken hij maakte in een tijd dat schildersmateriaal moeilijk verkrijgbaar was en reizen praktisch onmogelijk werd.
