‎Benjamin du surrealisme en Belgique dont il devint l'une des figures majeures depuis sa rencontre avec Rene Magritte en 1937, Marcel Marien fut tour a tour poete, collagiste, editeur, assemblagiste, photographe et meme cineaste, son film l'Imitation du cinema realise en 1959 etant censure puis interdit. Il fut egalement un polemiste virulent, divers proces et attaques suivant la publication de ses ouvrages et de ses tracts. Une ouvre multiforme rejetant toute preoccupation esthetique, agissant en declencheur d'idees, prolongeant celles de Magritte et de Nouge. L'oeuvre de Marcel Marien deroute autant qu'elle fascine. A peine croit-on en saisir le !l qu'il se brise ou se noue, refusant de se devider dans une regularite qui en permettrait l'etude chronologique, ou sa declinaison en periodes que l'age, les lieux, les in"uens, en creusant le sujet, epuisant les possibilites des objets, des images, par les diverses techniques abordees.
