Bron: Letterenhuis Antwerpen

Merel paints ?independently?; she is not part of a specific trend or school. She creates and paints her own world, full of colours. Her message is based on a great deal of astonishment and surprise. Leading and suggestive power is typical for her artistic expression. In this way she gets to the soul and heart of her themes very delicately and sensitively. Her paintings evoke a wealth of different experiences, the spectator will be overwhelmed. She paints in an uncomplicated and unsophisticated way, the way she experiences and discovers the world. Time after time one will be an integral part of this. Her paintings are full of subtle fascination and spells, which cause quite a few happy emotions
