‎Edition originale de la traduction française et premier ouvrage publié par Buffon. Paru en anglais en 1727 sous le titre de "Vegetable staticks", cet ouvrage est rempli d'expériences passionnantes de Hales qui, un des premiers, a appris à manipuler les gaz notamment grâce à sa cuve à eau qui lui permettait de les recueillir à l'aide de tubes recourbés ou d'éprouvettes retournées ; c'est ainsi qu'il a pu mesurer la quantité de gaz dégagé par la fermentation ou absorbée par la combustion d'une chandelle, etc. Ses expériences lui ont permis de montrer le rôle crucial joué par la transpiration des feuilles des végétaux et de faire avancer la connaissance de la circulation de la sève des plantes ; il fut aussi le premier à démontrer que les arbres piègent l'oxyde de carbone de l'air pour s'en nourrir et qu'ils participent ainsi à la purification de l'air ; il fut également amené, au cours de ses expériences, à prouver la nécessité de la ventilation, y compris artificielle, des mines, prisons et hôpitaux.Un cahier (Ss) de quatre feuillets a été imprimé sur du papier acide ; très discrète restauration à une coiffe et aux coins, sinon bel exemplaire, bien relié et bien frais, avec un bon tirage des planches. ‎
