‎The Psuedo-Nonnos Commentaries on Sermons IV, V, XXXIX and XLIII by Gregory of Nanzianos collect and explain most of the references to Hellenic learning and mythology made therein. They reflect the views (and level of education) of a tolerant but committed Eastern Christian of the early sixth century A.D., and excited much interest, both in the Byzantine world, and, after they were printed, in the West. Later commentators and scholiasts on St. Gregory made much use of the work, as did other writers and compilers of encyclopaedias. The edition is based upon an investigation of almost all of the 150 known manuscripts, and provides a text which is largely supported by the Syriac and Armenian versions. These are of early date. Recent collations of their texts are included in the apparatus criticus. The Introduction defines the relationship between the versions and the Greek text, the latter's recensions and the history of its tradition, with detailed stemmata. It surveys and updates previous and contemporary studies through the extent of the evidence at its disposal and the generous help of others. A brief list of sources accompanies the text and apparatus criticus, and an Appendix, Indices Nominum and an Index Codicum are included. Languages: Greek.‎

‎This volume revolves around three men who knew each other well, oversaw the political and spiritual life of much of northern France and Flanders during the first third of the twelfth century, and died within five years of one another: Charles the Good, count of Flanders from 1119 to 1127; John of Warneton, archdeacon of Arras from 1096 to 1099 and bishop of Therouanne from 1099 to 1130; and their common biographer, Walter, archdeacon of Therouanne from 1116 to 1132. The volume includes a detailed historical introduction and offers new editions of Walter's vitae of Charles and John and of several other pieces - poems on Charles's death, his epitaphs, the record of the inquest into his murder - that, taken together with Walter's Vita Karoli and the edition of Galbert of Bruges' De multro, traditione, et occisione gloriosi Karoli comitis Flandriarum that has already appeared in this series (ed. J. Rider, CCCM 131, Turnhout, 1994), provide the most important elements of the dossier on Charles's assassination. Each of the works is preceded by an editorial discussion. ‎L'Epitre des Apotres a ete redigee dans la seconde moitie du IIe siecle, c'est-a-dire peu apres les derniers livres du Nouveau Testament dont elle est tout impregnee, a un moment ou un nouvel effort missionnaire s'imposait a l'Eglise. Il s'agit d'un texte plus tardif, mais qui en depend et qui l'accompagne dans la tradition manuscrite. ‎This work constitutes the critical edition and in-depth study of a unique dictionary of Biblical Hebrew written by Christian scholars at Ramsey Abbey in East Anglia, during the third quarter of the 13th century. Each of the Hebrew entries in the dictionary (over three thousand five hundred, alphabetically arranged) has been translated into Latin, as well as Old French (in more than a thousand cases) and also into Middle English (in three cases). These translations are illustrated by quotations from the Vulgate, which are in turn corrected according to the literal meaning of the Hebrew Bible or its Jewish interpretations. Rather than follow the patristic tradition of Hebraism and engage in anti-Jewish polemics, the Christian authors of this exceptional work actually turned to Jewish Rabbinic and Medieval sources, including the Aramaic targumim, midrashim, Rachi?s commentaries, ibn Parhon?s dictionary of Hebrew roots and so on. Building on the grammatical approach of the Spanish school, they elaborated a genuine philological work where the Hebrew Bible was used to correct the Vulgate, and more generally where the knowledge of the Hebrew language served to access and understand the original text of the Bible. ‎Cette édition est orné des figures, gravées par Bernard Salomon, tirées des Quatrains historiques de la Bible parus à Lyon, chez Jean de Tournes en 1553. Bien que notre exemplaire soit modeste de par sa condition, il n'en reste pas moins de toute rareté: la page de titre est une variante de l'édition donnée par les héritiers de Jacques Giunta, que Baudrier ne connaît pas, et dont nous n'avons trouvé qu'un seul exemplaire conservé dans le fonds ancien de la Médiathèque Michel-Crépeau de La Rochelle. Quelques marginalia du temps. Exemplaire restauré, avec manque d'un feuillet de table au début, de la page de titre du second volume, et du dernier feuillet de table (seul une petite partie est présente). Mouillures, plusieurs feuillets restaurés au 19e. Exemplaire modeste. Épidermures, un coin tapé. Baudrier, VI, 305 (pour l'autre version de la page de titre); Brunet, III, 571, mentionne l'édition avec la même page de titre que la notre, mais Baudrier, IV, 389, ne mentionne pas cette version de la page de titre). ‎
