Frans Van Praet werd geboren in 1937 in Sint-Amands aan de Schelde. Als jonge man vertoeft hij in het kunstenaarsmilieu rond Galerie De Zwarte Panter. Het is in deze context dat men zijn beeldend werk moet plaatsen: een Vlaams surrealisme, dat al woordspelend knipoogt met beelden. In zijn realisaties komt een boeiende ambiguiteit naar voren: verhalende exuberantie gaat hand in hand met de minder-is-meer-soberheid van het minimalisme. Deze beperking waarin men de meester herkent, is de hoofdlijn die Van Praet volgt wanneer hij gebruiksvoorwerpen ontwerpt. Zo mogelijk bepaalt hij ook graag mee de ruimte waarin de objecten zullen functioneren. Zijn creaties vormen een synthese van het ongewoon utilitaire en het potentieel van het materiaal. Hout is zijn lievelingsmateriaal. Bij doorgezaagd, eeuwenoud hout ziet men de jaarringen - de geschiedenis van het groeiproces. Het Designmuseum Gent zal eind deze lente een tentoonstelling wijden aan Van Praet.‎

‎Alfons Jozef de Ridder ist das achte von zehn Kindern des B ckers Christiaan de Ridder und Adela van Elst. Er wurde in Antwerpen geboren. Sp ter leiht er sich sein Pseudonym aus einem nahe gelegenen Wald namens Helsschot. Er wird aus dem K niglichen Athen um verwiesen und arbeitet als Laufbursche f r Antwerpener Firmen. 1903 erhielt er ein Diplom am Antwerp Higher Trade Institute. In Paris arbeitet er als Angestellter bei einem wohlhabenden argentinischen Gesch ftsmann. Seine Erfahrungen mit einigen Mietern eines Pariser Hauses verarbeitet er in seinem Deb troman Villa des roses (1914). 1908 bekommt er eine Anstellung bei der Gustowerf in Schiedam. Nach seiner R ckkehr nach Belgien wurde er Kaufmann und war einige Zeit Korrespondent des NieuweRotterdamsche Courant.1931 gr ndete er seine eigene Werbeagentur, die bis zu seinem Tod 1960 bestand.‎

‎One day in early 1960, the French consulate in Detroit organised a cocktail party. Because of his knowledge of the French language, designer Henry De S gur Lauve was invited along as an interpreter. At the party, he met Pierre Bercot, general manager of Citro n. They got talking about Citro n design and Bercot invited De S gur Lauve for a meeting in Paris. That conversation went positively and in May 1960 De S gur Lauve signed a cooperation agreement with Citro n to produce design proposals that suited the taste of American consumers. From then on, De S gur Lauve came out with a fair number of sketches with a decidedly American influence for new models. The first designs are still sometimes reminiscent of facelifted DSs, but soon they look more like spacecraft than cars for everyday use. De S gur Lauve had access to Citro n?s design studio and could see what the designers were working on, which allowed him to create ?Americanised? variants based on those models. Examples found in this book include proposals for the later Citro n CX and the interior of the Citro n SM. Much of De S gur Lauves spectacular designs ended up in the Citro n archives and were forgotten. After more than 50 years, this book showcases his work prominently for the first time.
