‎Atchugarry's vader, ook kunstenaar, bracht hem de liefde voor het vak bij. Niet zonder resultaat: Pablo hield zijn eerste solotentoonstelling in Montevideo (Uruguay) toen hij pas 18 was. Hij ontwikkelde zich niet enkel als kunstschilder, maar ook als gevierd kunstenaar met materialen als cement, hout en metaal. Vandaag is zijn werk in tal van verzamelingen vertegenwoordigd. In Lecco (Italie) heeft hij zijn eigen museum. In 2002 ontvangt hij de Michelangelo Award als erkenning voor zijn artistieke loopbaan; een jaar later vertegenwoordigt hij Uruguay op de biennale van Venetie. Naar aanleiding van een tentoonstelling in het Groeningemuseum te Brugge verschijnt een lijvige monografie waarin de kunstenaar in een omstandig interview honderduit over zijn leven en werk vertelt.‎
