Giannina Urmeneta Ottiker lives and works in Ghent. Since she graduated at the Art School of Lima, Barcelona and Ghent, she participated in several group and solo-exhibitions. Her work is also present in the permanent collection of the Biblioth que Nationale in Paris. During 8 years she was the house photographer of the Arts Centre Vooruit in Ghent where she photographed all visiting artists of the international dance, theater and music scene. The virtual reality of the stage still has a strong influence on her work. The stillness in landscape and the silence of characters bring a significant absence in her pictures. The sometimes brutal cut-off of body parts, the use of movement and her interest in color, make them sometimes seem like abstract paintings.
