‎In de Nederlanden ontstaan aan het einde van de zestiende eeuw speciale glazen waarmee drankspelletjes gespeeld kunnen worden. Ze zorgen voor saamhorigheid, een hoop vermaak en natuurlijk uiteindelijk grote dronkenschap. Schertsglazen zijn glazen die de drinker op een of andere wijze verrassen. Als je niet weet hoe je ze moet gebruiken, krijg je bij sommige glazen een plens wijn over je heen. Andere glazen zijn zo ingenieus gemaakt dat je ze moet bestuderen voordat je berhaupt begrijpt hoe je eruit kunt drinken. Ook zijn er glazen met een bijzondere vorm - de bekende laars, maar ook een fabeldier, een hoorn of zelfs een pistool. Weer andere maken vreemde geluiden als eruit gedronken wordt.
