‎Op 2 oktober 1996 werd in Leiden bij de opgraving van het Romeinse kamp Matilo een bronzen viziermasker gevonden, een vondst die zelfs de landelijke dagbladen haalde. Declared unfit for military service, he became lonely and fell into depression, and committed suicide in 1917.
