‎In de zestiende eeuw biedt de zot een aantrekkelijk houvast om van alles te regelen. Zo schept hij luidruchtig vertier dat de gevreesde melancholie kan dempen. Verder slaat hij door zijn gebrek aan wijsheid de grootste onzin uit, die ook benut kan worden om vileine kritiek te uiten: het is toch maar een gek die het zegt... Daarom nemen vorsten, stadsbesturen en schutterijen een zot in dienst om lucht te kunnen geven aan oplopende spanningen. Bovendien kan deze beroepsdwaas fungeren als antimodel voor de beschavingsidealen van de bourgeoisie. Wild gebarend op zijn stokpaardje demonstreert hij elk gebrek aan beheersing en goede manieren. Om al die redenen worden professionele zotten en echte gekken in deze eeuw van de gevestigde burgermacht naar hartenlust uitgebuit - niet zelden ge pireerd door de onsterfelijke zot van wie Erasmus de lof gezongen heeft. ‎De architect Nicolaas Lansdorp (1885-1968) was van 1919 tot 1932 de drijvende kracht van de dienst Publieke Werken in Amsterdam. Hierna was hij tot 1955 hoogleraar aan de Faculteit Bouwkunde van de Technische Universiteit Delft. Minder bekend is dat hij een verwoed tekenaar was die architectonische ideeen vastlegde en reis- en natuurschetsen maakte, vaak op poetische wijze. Het handschrift van de architect toont schetsen van Nicolaas Lansdorp en enkele tijdgenoten uit binnen- en buitenland. ‎Posture Pockets N 4 is een ode aan de stoffen zak doek. De zakdoek is een intiem stuk textiel dat heel dicht op de menselijke huid ligt. De stoffen zakdoek wordt sinds eeuwen op zeer uiteenlopende manieren gebruikt. Hij stelpt bloed bij een schaafwonde, vangt over vloedig neusvocht op, verwijdert onverwachte bevlekkingen op het lichaam, maar ook op tafels en stoelen. Daarnaast is de zakdoek een ritueel voorwerp waarmee mensen worden uitgewuifd vanop het treinperron, of vanop de kade van een lange vaart. Mensen worden ook verwelkomd met een zakdoek zoals bij de intrede van een heiligenstoet, of de ver schijning van een pop-idool op een concertpodium. Bij openluchtconcerten wordt de zakdoek gebruikt om het hoofd te bedekken bij te grote hitte maar evengoed om bij regen de hoofdharen of schedel te drogen. Op trouwfeesten wordt de zakdoek ingezet bij een opzwepend lied over een merengebied. Kin deren erven zakdoeken van hun ouders en zetten soms de traditie van het gebruik ervan voort. Uiteenlopende kunstenaars die nog een zakdoek dragen werden door Gustave Demoen, curator van de tentoonstelling 'Les Mouchoirs de poche', gevraagd een zakdoek te ontwerpen gelinkt aan hun artistieke praktijk en hun relatie met de stoffen zakdoek. Ter gelegenheid van de tentoonstelling in Convent Gent (01 - 17.12.2023) en een aansluitende tentoon stelling in MIAT wordt een Posture Pocket uitgege ven waarin alle zakdoek-kunstwerken van de ten toonstelling worden opgenomen. De 35 kunstenaars schrijven een korte toelichting bij hun ontwerp en de relatie tot het in onbruik rakende object. Oriana Lemmens schrijft voor het boek een essay over het zakdoekengebruik in het leven en de kunst en citeert daarin fragmenten uit de wereldlitera tuur, ge llustreerd met beelden uit de kunstgeschie denis. Het boek is een wonderlijk kijkboek waarin de vor melijke en inhoudelijke schoonheid van dit intieme stuk stof wordt bezongen. Ces petites voitures possdent donc une place part dans le coeur des amateurs et des collectionneurs. Elles vont permettre Meccano d'asseoir sa notorit dans le domaine des modles rduits et de connatre un succs sans prcdent qui va se traduire par des chiffres de production hors du commun.
