‎L’Œuvre de Fernand Janin, ancien pensionnaire de l’Académie de France à Rome. Trente reproductions en couleurs et en noir, accompagnées d’une préface de Pierre MARCEL.‎

(Reliure de l’époque). 3 ff., 32 pp., 1 f.Ouvrage rare, qui ne fut tiré qu’à 220 exemplaires, tous sur Arches. Fernand Janin est né à Nîmes en 1880. En 1898 il entre à l’École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Il visite l’Italie, l’Afrique et l’Amérique (où il fut appelé pour étudier un grand projet d’architecture à Chicago) et obtient le grand prix de Rome d’architecture en 1910. Il meurt à Marsillargue en 1912, âgé de 32 ans, des suites d’une malaria contractée à Paestum. Son éloge funèbre prononcée par V. Laloux est reproduit dans le livre, ainsi que le catalogue de ses principales œuvres.Exemplaire de Gaston CASTEL, ami de jeunesse de F. Janin. Il avait obtenu le 3e prix de Rome la même année que Janin. Sur les gardes on trouve une grande photographie prise à la Villa Médicis en 1910 réunissant tous les pensionnaires, avec les signatures de ces derniers et des annotations marginales faites par Castel en 1966 (ceux qui sont morts, ceux qui restent). Une autre grande photographie (pliée) montre la classe 1910 aux Beaux-Arts ; sur le dernier plat, grande photographie originale de F. Bianchi montrant un groupe d’élèves des Beaux-Arts en 1913.La planche 19 manque mais le volume est enrichi de nombreuses planches et documents divers. Plusieurs planches déreliées. Reliure un peu frottée.‎

‎Het is verbazingwekkend dat er tot op heden nog geen serieuze uitgave of catalogus is verschenen met de prenten die door Kees van Dongen (1877, Delfshaven - 1968, Monte Carlo) geproduceerd zijn. Hij was een van de meest toonaangevende kunstenaars van de Fauvist beweging en heeft vele jaren een hoog aanzien gehad op internationaal niveau. Op een paar uitzonderingen na waren de uitgaven over de werken van Van Dongen onlogisch en gefragmenteert en waren vooral gericht op zijn schilderijen. Er is een groot tekort aan betrouwbare en bruikbare documentatie over de uitgebreide en diverse reeks van prenten die de kunstenaar geproduceerd heeft. Deze catalogus omvat reprodukties en beschrijvingen over alle prenten die Van Dongen ooit gemaakt heeft‎

‎For the the exhibition in the S.M.A.K., Partenheimer's conceptual point of departure has been La Robe des Choses, a text from A la R veuse Mati re by the French author Francis Ponge. Reality is veiled, elusive. There is only one-way to fathom its depths: through thinking. Reflection results in concepts that enable us to penetrate and reconstruct reality. On the other hand, there will always remain elements from reality that elude pure reason and that can only be made visible by art. Partenheimer's work must consequently be interpreted as resulting from a coherent stream of thoughts, with which the artist does not so much want to reveal or evoke a certain reality, as to show us and discuss the reflections that accompany our 'being in this reality'. Quite often dogmas are undermined by new dogmas. That, precisely, is what Partenheimer seeks to avoid. An image, in Partenheimer's view, is only interesting if it can constantly bring about new streams of ideas. The public is thus invited to create the image himself or herself according the artist's theory: 'All sculpture is essentially conceptual. It does not have a final, definite form or a fixed, spatial dimension. As a model, as a monument of the imagination, a sculpture assumes those dimensions, which it needs for the respective environment in which it is shown. Any work may be altered and its dimensions deliberately adapted to the place chosen for its showing, be it a geometrically architectural room or an open, natural space'.‎

‎Between March 2020 and November 2021 Bram Van Meervelde and Jan Lemaire went beachcombing on the banks of the river Schelde. The treasures and trouvailles were compounded in the book Jutten designed by Jean-Michel Meyers. . Why is it two men in boots keep trudging the mud in search of shards of the past? But a year has passed and on it goes, the larking, the scouring, the scavenging. One tea towel after another filled with coins, marbles, pipes. Finds have a strange hold over us. There?s a magic to them that shines on a lot longer than the soon fading glimmer of things we intentionally choose. That purposefulness is probably what kills our enthusiasm after a week or so. Because when we make a choice, there?s too much of ourselves in the object already. We don?t deem a consciously picked item deserving of a tea towel display. The more trash we?ve dug through to get to our treasure, the more it becomes. Hence the mud-crusted trouvailles. We?ve had to make our hands dirty and?like any good romance?half the pleasure lies in the hunt. So we go hunting for crap that?s out of place. Crap that becomes a find, simply because it was lost. A diamond is nothing very special in a jewellery store, but it?s everything when found among discarded fish. Yet maybe the real reason for this endless trawlings for trinkets is another story altogether. Not that of a seventeenth-century mariner tossing a coin into the Scheldt to buy a safe passage, but the belief that we?re not the ones that find the perfectly rounded rock, it?s the pebble that finds us. For all its muteness, it speaks to us.‎

‎Tussen 1269 en 1322 kenden de Vlaamse munthuizen van Ieper, Brugge, Gent, Aalst, Dendermonde, Ninove en Damme een grote bloei. Die viel samen met het bewind van de graven Margaretha van Constantinopel, Gwijde van Dampierre en Robrecht van Bethune. In deze publicatie worden alle grote zilveren munten die in deze periode in de Vlaamse munthuizen werden geslagen besproken en bestudeerd. Uniek aan dit overzichtswerk is dat alle munten in vrijwel alle varianten zijn afgebeeld.
