‎Skyhigh is my place, dat speciaal voor MDD werd gerealiseerd, is het resultaat van meer dan twee jaar intensief onderzoek door de Iraanse kunstenaar Shahpour Pouyan en de eerste solopresentatie van de kunstenaar in een Belgische publieke instelling. Skyhigh is my place is de eerste uitvoerige monografie over de in Iran geboren kunstenaar Shahpour Pouyan. Het brengt belangrijke teksten en beelden samen over zijn praktijk. De publicatie vertrekt vanuit Shahpour Pouyan's ambitieuze installatie Skyhigh is my place in Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, wat MDD's patio-zaal gedeeltelijk vulde met tarwe en een grootschalige replica van een militaire verkeerstoren omkeerde. Door deze twee elementen te verenigen, roept Pouyan een beeld op van de Iraanse Revolutie van 1979 en in het bijzonder de betrokkenheid van zijn vader bij dit historische moment. Op het hoogtepunt van de revolutie nam Pouyans vader, als ingenieur voor straaljagers, deel aan een collectieve poging om tarwe te planten op zijn militaire basis in de buurt van Isfahan. De kortstondige landbouwactiviteit op een militaire basis staat voor de vele tegenstrijdigheden van de Revolutie van 1979, waar een technologische obsessie met het luchtruim samenging met patriottische liefde voor het platteland. ‎Summary The Revelation of Jesus Christ, better known as the Apocalypse of John, or simply the Book of Revelation, has always fascinated its readers, both religious and non-religious. Its transmission and reception in a Christian context have given rise to a wide variety of interpretations and controversies. At the heart of this revelation are the enigmatic figures of a pregnant woman appearing in heaven and then fleeing into the desert, a prostitute appearing in the desert and riding a beast, and then the bride of the Lamb, as well as a great city called Babylon, Sodom, and Egypt. Cities, beast, and prostitute are usually interpreted as thinly veiled references to Rome and its empire, and in particular to the emperor Nero. However, this reading raises a number of interpretative problems concerning the relationship between these different female figures and their relation to the beast, which duplicates into a beast from the sea and a beast from the land, and concerning the city that lies beneath Babylon. Although they do not all share the exact same point of view on the Apocalypse of John and on the solutions to these interpretative problems, the contributions gathered in this volume all question the received ideas in one way or another. ‎Summary By the later Middle Ages Valencia had become a major urban centre close to the Mediterranean and surrounded by fertile plains. From Jaume I's conquest of the city in 1238, ecclesiastical and civic institutions were founded in rapid succession and built elegant churches and palaces to reflect their permanence and prestige. From at least the time of Francesc Eiximenis (d. 1409), the city's authorities became increasingly aware of the importance of opening new public spaces within the web of narrow streets characteristic of Muslim conurbations in the interest of developing the representation of a Christian civic religion. These spaces, notably those in front of the royal palace, cathedral and Dominican and Franciscan monasteries, quickly established themselves as focal points for urban ritual, especially for the processional activity that marked the liturgical calendar and the devotional practices of confraternities and guilds. Sounds of all kinds shaped and were shaped by the urban complex and were generated by both the festive and non-festive events that, whether recurrent or exceptional, held deep significance for the inhabitants of the city. This interdisciplinary collection of fifteen essays explores the relationship between the sounds and spaces of late medieval and early modern Valencia to gain greater insight into how the city's inhabitants interpreted the soundspace in which they moved and which influenced their daily lives, creating a sense of community - albeit one full of rivalry and conflict - and resulting in a coherent Valencian identity. ‎Een liefdesgeschiedenis in Saint-Germain-des-Pr s is een van de belangrijkste boeken uit de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse fotografie. Het verscheen voor het eerst in 1956, bij De Bezige Bij, en betekende de doorbraak van fotograaf Ed van der Elsken. Door middel van een filmische opeenvolging van tekst en korrelige zwart-witfoto's vertelt Van der Elsken ons een semiautobiografisch liefdesverhaal: dat van Manuel en Ann, gesitueerd in de grimmige sfeer van het naoorlogse Parijs van de jaren 1950. Van der Elsken volgt Ann met zijn camera op haar zwerftocht door Parijs, terwijl ze danst, drinkt, flirt, vecht, slaapt, verliefd wordt... Ann is eigenlijk de legendarische bohemienne Vali Myers, een Australische kunstenares die bevriend was met Cocteau en Genet. Maar Van der Elsken geeft van bij het begin aan dat 'de handeling van het boek en de karakters die er een rol in spelen, ontsproten zijn aan de fantasie van de auteur'. Een liefdesgeschiedenis in Saint-Germain-des-Pr s is een cultboek geworden, dat tot nu toe bijna onvindbaar was.‎
