‎La vocation des architecte et dessinateur Luc et Francois Schuiten a ete suscitee par un artiste de talent : leur pere, l'architecte Robert Schuiten (1912-1997). Dans les annees 1940-1950, celui-ci s'est revele comme un inventeur de maisons ecologiques avant la lettre. Adaptees au site, au climat et aux conditions economiques, elles captent la nature dans des serres, des balcons-pergolas et des jardins d'hiver. Suivant l'exemple de Frank Lloyd Wright, Robert Schuiten a realise de nombreux dessins, aquarelles, gouaches et peintures, afin de convaincre ses contemporains d'habiter des maisons ou des villas suburbaines plutot que des appartements confines et sans jardin. Apotre de la vie au grand air, il a defendu son point de vue dans des livres illustres par ses soins et publies a compte d'auteur. Il se situe ainsi dans la lignee de ses illustres aines Albert Laprade, Jean-Charles Moreux et Charles Letrosne. ‎By examining their production practices in a variety of genres?including manuscript illustration, glass painting and staining, tapestry manufacture, portrait painting, and engraving?this book explores how Netherlandish artists migrating to England in the early modern period overcame difficulties raised by their outsider status. This study examines, for the first time in this context, the challenges of alien status to artistic production and the effectiveness of cooperation as a countermeasure. The author demonstrates that collaboration was chief among the strategies that these foreigners chose to secure a position in London's changing art market. Curd's exploration of these collaborations primarily follows Pierre Bourdieu's model of "establishment and challenger" in which dominance in a field of cultural production depends upon how much cultural, political, and economic capital can be accumulated and the effectiveness of the strategies used to confront competition. The analysis presented here challenges received opinion that a collaborative work is only a joint effort of artists working together on a single monument by demonstrating that the participation of patrons and middlemen can also shape the final appearance of a work of art. Furthermore, this book shows that the strategic use of collaboration served the goal of competition by helping to establish foreign artists in the London art market and suggests that their coping strategies have implications for the study of immigrant behaviors today.‎

‎The Breviari d'Amor dates from 1288 (and was probably completed around 1292), is about 34,500 lines long and written in octosyllabic rhyming couplets. It exists in twelve full or almost full manuscripts and twelve fragments. It is written in Medieval Occitan and is the product in part of a long theological tradition and in part of the courtly tradition. This is the first edition to be published since the two-volume work of Gabriel Aza s (1862-1881), which was of great merit for its time, but used only four of the manuscripts. The numbering of the present edition follows that of Aza s, given the many works which allude to the Breviari. This didactic text has necessarily been labeled as "encyclopaedic" and this is certainly not a matter of dispute, although, in terms of the subject matter, it is very unusual since the emphasis is not only theological but also courtly. It conforms to the general perspective adopted by summae but the particular integration of the theological aspects with the debate on the nature of fin'amor makes it unique. The four volumes (volumes II to V) of the complete text have been already published, each with a selective glossary and bibliography. The present, first volume, is the Introduction.
