‎L'encyclopedie intitulee De proprietatibus rerum (" Livre des proprietes des choses "), redigee dans les annees 1240 par le franciscain Barthelemy l'Anglais, figure parmi les ouvrages les plus diffuses et les plus influents de la litterature didactique du Moyen Age tardif. Dans le cadre du projet international preparant l'edition du texte latin et de sa traduction francaise par Jean Corbechon (1372), un colloque s'est tenu du 9 au 11 octobre 2003 a Munster, a l'initiative du Seminar fur Lateinische Philologie des Mittelalters und der Neuzeit de la Westfalische Wilhelms-Universitat de Munster. Les communications publiees dans ce volume ont pour sujet la discussion de questions touchant aux traditions de sources, a la constitution d'un canon de connaissances encyclopediques, et a l'histoire de la diffusion et de l'influence des textes. A la lumiere des traductions en langue vulgaire du De proprietatibus rerum, des problemes historiques et philologiques relatifs a la reception vernaculaire du texte sont eclaircis. Des contenus encyclopediques (par ex. la botanique, les ages de l'homme, les couleurs ou les pierres precieuses) sont interroges du double point de vue de la description et de l'interpretation spirituelle. La presence et la fonction des notes marginales moralisantes dans les manuscrits latins de Barthelemy sont, et c'est une premiere, placees au centre de diverses recherches. ‎Le franciscain Barthelemy l?Anglais composa aux alentours de 1240 l'encyclopedie De proprietatibus rerum, divisee en 19 livres ou il traita de Dieu, des anges, du corps et de l'ame humains, du ciel et des phenomenes astronomiques et meteorologiques, du monde et ses parties, des pierres precieuses, des plantes et des animaux, pour terminer par un appendice consacree aux couleurs, aux saveurs et aux mesures des objets. En raison de son exhaustivite et de son organisation coherente, le De proprietatibus rerum s'affirme, pendant le XIIIe et le XVe siecle, comme un des principaux recueils encyclopediques ; son succes se mesure au grand nombre de manuscrits (environ 200), de traductions en langue vernaculaire (en anglo-normand, en italien, en francais, en provencal, en anglais, en espagnol, en neerlandais), et d'editions imprimees (environ 50 entre 1470 et 1609). Alors que l'interet des medievistes pour l'encyclopedie de Barthelemy l'Anglais n'a cesse de croitre durant les dernieres decennies, et que le De proprietatibus rerum constitue une source privilegiee pour un grand nombre de disciplines, le texte originel ne restait accessible qu'a travers les anciennes editions imprimees. Un projet editorial international impliquant 24 chercheurs et coordonne a Munster, Louvain-La-Neuve et Orleans a des lors mis en chantier l'edition du texte latin et de sa traduction francaise par Jean Corbechon, datee de 1372. Ce premier volume offre l'introduction generale, qui presente l'oeuvre de Barthelemy et son contexte, sa diffusion manuscrite et sa posterite, decrit les manuscrits selectionnes et enonce les principes editoriaux suivis. Vient ensuite l'edition latine du prologue de Barthelemy et des livres I a IV, qui sont consacres successivement a Dieu (I), aux anges (II), a l'ame humaine et a ses facultes (III), aux elements et a leurs qualites, ainsi qu'aux humeurs du corps humain (IV). ‎Until the present, the authentic commentary on Genesis by Remigius of Auxerre, the important late Carolingian school-master, has remained unknown. The commentary on Genesis first published in 1723 as the work of Remigius and which also appears in the Patrologia Latina under his name is actually the work of his teacher, Haimo of Auxerre. Bernard Pez, librarian of the Abbey of Melk and editor of the Pseudo-Remigian commentary has based his edition on only two manuscripts (out of 20) which by chance attributed his commentary to Remigius. What Pez did not know was that the manuscripts he used for his edition were part of a tertiary and late family of witnesses, one of whose primary attributes was the misattribution of Haimo's text to Remigius. Now, for the first time, thanks to the Corpus Christianorum, the authentic commentary of Remigius of Auxerre on the book of Genesis appears in print. This edition is based on the 10 extant manuscripts (as well as a collection of excerpts). In addition, the 20 extant manuscripts of Haimo's commentary on Genesis (which the editor is also preparing as a critical edition for Corpus Christianorum) are also thoroughly examined in order to resolve the disputed authorship of the two commentaries by these important school-masters. The new edition contains a thorough analysis of the sources of Remigius' work, setting it in the conext of Carolingian exegesis on Genesis by documenting the relationship between Remigius' commentary and the work of Alcuin, Claudius of Turin, Hrabanus Maurus, Angelomus of Luxeuil, Haimo of Auxerre and Adrevald of Fleury. This source analysis reveals that Remigius was attempting to compose a thoroughly literal commentary on Genesis, extending the exegetical agenda of Augustine's De Genesi ad litteram to the entire book of Genesis. It must be considered of great interest that the editor has discovered a number of passages that are ultimately derived from Jewish exegetical traditions. Languages: Latin.‎
