‎Edition originale imprimée à petit nombre de cet extrait de la Revue britannique de février 1880. Seulement trois exemplaires au CCF (BnF, INHA et Sorbonne). Notre exemplaire est présenté dans son brochage d'origine sous couverture d'attente muette. Fascicule orné d'illustrations en noir dans le texte. Dans la mythologie grecque, les Cabires étaient des divinités mineures objets d'un culte à mystères dans plusieurs endroits de la Grèce, et surtout dans les îles de Samothrace, de Lemnos et d'Imbros. Ces divinités très mal connues des Grecs eux-mêmes, formaient une survivance d'un passé égéen ayant subi des influences phéniciennes, mais elles devinrent protectrices de la navigation. Claude-Sosthène Grasset dit d'Orcet (1828-1900) s'établit plusieurs années à Chypre où il entreprit des fouilles, découvrant une grande quantité d'objets dont une partie sera rapportée en France en 1859 par la Mission de Saulcy à son retour de la Terre-Sainte, constituant ainsi le premier fonds d'archéologie chypriote du Musée du Louvre. Il participa ensuite à deux autres missions archéologiques, d'abord en Phénicie avec Ernest Renan en 1859-1861, puis à nouveau à Chypre avec Melchior de Vogüé (cf. l'envoi) et l'architecte Edmond Duthoit en 1862-1864. ‎En 1876, sous la IIIe république, peu après la Commune, dans un moment où le pouvoir veut avant tout le calme social, au sud de Morlaix, dans les monts dArrée, un meurtre est commis dans des circonstances abominables.La propriétaire du château du Bois du Rellec en Plounéour-Ménez, une personne âgée, est massacrée, par un jardinier à son service, dit-on (comme dans une affaire récente bien connue). Cet assassinat ne fut jamais vraiment expliqué, malgré ce coupable idéal qui disparut lui-même mystérieusement, créant une affaire dans laffaire.Yves Lesrouz, jeune journaliste du Morlaisien, journal local dirigé par le célèbre écrivain breton François-Marie Luzel, couvrit lévènement. À la fin de sa vie, à la veille de la guerre de 1914, suite au récit erroné de ce crime dans un ouvrage local, il décida de reprendre les investigations. Il se procura divers renseignements et compila les documents dépoque dans un dossier ensuite oublié.Retrouvé en 1987, ce dossier incita lauteur de ce livre à débuter une enquête archivistique et de terrain, qui malgré la réunion dune impressionnante masse documentaire soulève autant de questions quelle en résout.Cette affaire aussi complexe que laffaire Seznec, qui sest déroulée, en partie, à quelques kilomètres de là, mais dune visibilité plus sanglante et certainement plus sociale, provoquera tout autant de discussions passionnées. ‎Summary In this book Claudia Daniotti provides the first comprehensive study of the representation of Alexander the Great in Renaissance Italian art, exploring a fundamental turning point in the tradition: the transition from the medieval imagery of Alexander as a legendary, fairy-tale hero to the new historically grounded portrait of him as an example of moral virtue and military prowess. During the Middle Ages, Alexander was turned into a fabled creature and fearless explorer, whose Flight to Heaven and other marvellous adventures were tirelessly recounted and illustrated, enjoying huge popularity. With the humanist recovery of the ancient historical texts and the changing taste and expectations of the wider, wealthier and more diverse public of the courts and cities of the Italian peninsula, the fabulous aura that had surrounded Alexander for centuries evaporated. He was recast as the moral exemplum and valorous military commander spoken of by the newly available ancient historians, and became the protagonist of an unprecedently vast iconographic repertoire established in the course of the sixteenth century. By discussing a body of artworks from 1160s to 1560s spanning several media (from illuminated manuscripts and frescoes to sculptural reliefs, wedding chests and tapestries) and researching this material in constant dialogue with the literary tradition, this book offers a reassessment of the whole visual tradition of Alexander in Renaissance Italy, making sense of a figurative repertoire often perceived as fragmentary and disparate, and casting new light on an overall still neglected chapter in the tradition of the myth of Alexander.
