Rare complete copy of this publication by the Ticino printing company that was founded in 1830 by Vincenzo Borsa in Capolago, in the Swiss-Italian part. Le comte Pierre Daru, an eminent French statesman, was highly regarded by Napoleon, who made him a councillor of state, a count of the empire, and intendant-general of the imperial household, and employed him as commissary-general, financier, and negotiator. In 1811 Daru became chief minister of state, and in 1815 he was chosen president of the French Academy. ‎Issu d’une famille qui fut protestante au XVIIe siècle, Pierre Daunou fut élève, puis professeur chez les Oratoriens. Ordonné prêtre en 1787, il enseigna les belles-lettres, la philosophie et la théologie dans plusieurs des collèges des Oratoriens. A la Révolution Française, il embrassa les idées nouvelles et, ayant pris parti pour la constitution civile du clergé, devint grand-vicaire de l'évêque constitutionnel du Pas-de-Calais (1791). Le 9 septembre 1792, ce département l'envoya siéger à la Convention, où il se distingua par sa modération. Opposé à la mise en jugement de Louis XVI, il publia des Considérations sur le procès de Louis XVI et, par esprit de modération, vota, le 20 janvier 1793, en faveur de la réclusion jusqu'à la paix suivie de la déportation. Revenu en France au moment du coup d'État du 18 brumaire, auquel il collabora, il contribua à la rédaction de la Constitution de l'an VIII. ‎Summary Roger II (c. 1095-1154), Sicily's first king, was an anomaly for his time. An ambitious new ruler who lacked the distinguished lineage so prized by the nobility, and a leader of an extraordinarily diverse population on the fringes of Europe, he occupied a unique space in the continent's charged political landscape. This interdisciplinary study examines the strategies that Roger used to legitimize his authority, including his relationships with contemporary rulers, the familial connections that he established through no less than three marriages, and his devotion to the Church and Saint Nicholas of Myra/Bari.
