Very good and complete copy of this homeopathic classic. Copy with the bookplate of the library of Gueuteville. Next to Hahnemann, Jahr was one of the greatest figures in the history of homeopathy. The "Notice sur les Hpitaux et Hospices civils de la ville de Paris" (54 pp.) appears here for the first time. Volckringer, p. 390.- (Scattered light foxing and some clear waterstaining; lower corner of the last 5 leaves gone with the loss of a few letters).

The late Apr. E. Grendel's copy with his bookplate. With the printed dedications to Lavoisier. A rare and highly important publication, and a revolution in the pharmaceutical literature. The work includes van Mons' plea for an European pharmacopoeia, a project that eventually became realized, first by Joudan with his "Pharmacopee universelle" (ed. I, 1828, ed. II, 1840). Not in Volckringer; Guislain p. 153; Vandewiele p. 255. -- (Small hole in the lower margin of 1 leaf; partly foxed and stained.)

A hard to find title, However, it was not published in 1891 as suggested by the impressum on the title-page, but in 1883, being a new issue of the remaining sheets of the 3rd edition of 1863 (Impr. E. Brire, rue St.-Honor). During 1857-1858 the author had also published the periodical "Le Propagateur homoeopathique",. --(Some scattered foxing).

With a very fine, baroque, printed title-page engraved by Jan van Troyen (see Thieme-Becker) showing on top the interior of an apothecary shop, in the middle the figures of Hippocrates, Galenus, Andromachus & Diorscorides, and a the bottom a view of Brussels.
The second edition of the first (1641) Brussels' pharmacopoea. Exceedingly rare, only about 7 or 8 copies known, but no copy in Brussels nor in Amsterdam. A very good inner copy with only a few minor defaults: lower margin of the first 4 leaves frayed with some slight loss of paper; a few leaves with some scattered light soiling in the outer margin; top edges partly stained. "In view of the already large, and rapidly increasing German population, including many physicians, the work, it is hoped will be acceptable to many pharmacists, who are frequently called upon for medicines by the German names, or by the Latin terms use in Germany" (from the preface). --(Apart from a small clear stain on the title-page, a nice clean inner copy).
