Le 22 mai, il écrit : "Peu libre de mes mouvements ces jours-ci, je profite de votre gracieuseté et vous attendrai demain lundi". Avril 1910 est marqué par la visite de Roosevelt en France et le 20 mai par les funérailles du roi Edouard VII auxquelles se rend le Président américain. Ambassadeur de France aux États-Unis de 1902 à 1924, Jean Jules Jusserand joua un rôle important dans l’entrée en guerre des États-Unis en 1917.‎

‎Superbe recueil calligraphié des Institutions de Justinien en latin établi dans la seconde moitié du XVIIe siècle certainement à des fins scolaires, un ex-libris manuscrit contemporain de l'ouvrage en attestant : Ce livre appartient à Mlle Watellet. Les Institutions furent d'ailleurs rédigées comme un manuel pour accompagner la promulgation du Code et du Digeste de Justinien, afin de faciliter l'enseignement et l'étude du droit. Inspiré en grande partie de celui de Gaius, il en reprend pour l'essentiel le plan, en séparant les personnes et les biens, séparation qui est encore celle du Code civil français et de beaucoup de textes juridiques contemporains. Très bel exemplaire en maroquin rouge du temps. ‎

All the illustrations in these manuscripts are reproduced to provide a visual conspectus of exceptional richness. ‎This publication is the fifth and final volume in the series that catalogues and illustrates all extant manuscripts of Beatus's Commentary on the Apocalypse. It is a tradition that originated in the monastery of San Toribio in the valley of Liebana, where the monk Beatus compiled his commentary on the Book of Revelation in 776 A.D., and that had its last manifestation in the stylistically exuberant manuscript in Paris, the Arroyo Beatus, produced shortly before the middle of the thirteenth century. Six illustrated Commentaries and one fragment are catalogued in the present volume. The spectacular Rylands Beatus in Manchester, dated around 1175 and the Las Huelgas Beatus in New York, made some fifty years later, contain the most complete cycles of illustrations, and both also have links with the Castilian capital of Burgos. The Cardena Beatus, which has a more complex origin, is now divided between four different collections, though a major part of the manuscript is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Also catalogued is the sophisticated Romanesque Beatus of Navarre in Paris, as well as the only Commentary produced in Portugal ? the Lorvao Beatus now in Lisbon. The fragment also included here, consisting of a single folio plus part of another, found its way from Medina de Rioseco to Mexico in the 16th century, and by chance contained illustrations that allowed it to be identified as part of a Beatus Commentary of the early thirteenth century. In addition to the author?s Introduction and detailed catalogue, the volume includes a corpus of more than 500 illustrations. As in the catalogues of earlier periods, all inscriptions contained in the manuscripts have been transcribed, and an overview of apocalypse subjects illustrated in all 26 surviving manuscripts can be seen on the clearly presented Table. ‎Très beau recueil calligraphié des sermons de Claude Geoffrin, en religion dom Jérôme de Sainte Marie moine de la Congrégation de Notre-Dame des Feuillants, proche des religieux de Port-Royal.Dom Jerome remplit plusieurs charges dans son ordre, entre autres celles de prieur, visiteur et d’assistant général. Mais embrassant le jansénisme, il fut exilé à Poitiers, âgé de 78 ans. Deux ans avant sa mort il s’imposa un silence volontaire pour ne plus s’occuper que de son salut, et mourut à Paris, le 17 mars 1721 à 82 ans. Ses sermons furent publiés à Paris en 1738 par par les abbés de La Chambre et Joly de Fleury en cinq volumes in-12. Épidermures sur le second plat des tomes III et IV, sinon bel exemplaire en maroquin rouge janséniste. ‎

‎Summary The Pore Caitif is an anonymous late fourteenth-century manual of devotion and religious instruction destined for a lay readership. The text, in its various forms, circulated widely and was evidently very popular, as the fifty of so extant manuscripts and fragments readily attest. Of them, no fewer that twenty-eight transmit a full text showing remarkable fidelity to the now presumably lost archetype. As such, the Pore Caitif invites comparison with the considerable production and diffusion of religious texts in English which figure prominently in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. In this respect, it is to note that some critics have argued for the presence of Lollard interpolators or commentators in a number of the extant manuscripts, including the influence of the Wycliffite Bible translation. This edition will be published in two volumes. This, the first, provides a full Introduction to the manuscripts and their transmission, classifying them in groups, while examining some of the trends observable in some of the more notable variants they inevitably preserve. A commentary on the text is followed by a full glossary. The second volume will discuss manuscript relationships and the problems arising therefrom.
