1887- 1897, in-4to, 12 p.to 24 p. each instalment, richly illustrated with publicity and numerous contents about tourism,sports, alpine questions etc etc, 1887- 24 fasc. 420 p. + special christmas number for 1887 (bound between N° 10 - 11) of 36 p. - upto 1897. stamped in several volumes ‘Florio Tognoni-Badrutt Privat Hôtel St. Moritz (Engadin)’, original h-leatherbinding.
Very rare newspaper from St. Moritz, for the english speaking residents and tourists, later called ‘The Alpine Post’. Much about skating, tennis, curling, golf, toboggaing (& Bobsleighing), ice-hockey and even snowshoeing. In the 1895 ed. on p. 48 & 1897 edition on p. 356, I found one of the the first indications of skiiing in St. Moritz, with each an illustration first of a Ski-Running in full career down an incliner’of 2 man on skis with one stick each, and this remarkable indication: ‘Snow-shoeing and Skiing, although they cannot be regarded exactly as sports, are amusements that keep people healthily employed in the open air’. C’est en 1895 déja, que deux officiers Norvégiens arrivaient a Chamonix, ‘Engel et Qval’ et c’est grace a leur expérience que le Chasse-Neige, le Christiania, et le Télémark devinrent famieliers aux français.
