‎L’auteur, né en 1942, biologiste de formation, se passionne pour le monde de la mer. Après quelques années consacrées à la peinture des voiliers et des paysages marins, il choisit la photographie comme le plus riche moyen d’exprimer une vision aiguisée par la fréquentation presque quotidienne du large. Depuis 20 ans il se voue au monde nautique en tant que photographe professionnel. Un beau livre peu courant sur un monde nautique oublié : les bateaux en bois traditionnels, derniers survivants des bateaux de pêche et caboteurs à la voile d’hier. Ces bateaux retrouvés ou reconstruits sur plans anciens, révèlent parfois des secrets vieux de plusieurs siècles et témoignent du talent des charpentiers de marine d’autrefois.‎
