‎---- PREMIERE EDITION FRANCAISE ---- BEL EXEMPLAIRE ---- "One of the most notable neurologists of the period". (MacHenry) ---- "A standard and a classical work in Neurology. Brown-Séquard is largely remembered today for his work on the spinal cord. His second significant contribution to neurology was his confirmation and elaboration of Bernard's studies on the sympathic control of the vasomotor mechanism. He was the first to show that sympathetic stimulation caused vasoconstriction and blanching of the rabbit's ear. In his studies of epilepsy he sought the cause and treatment for the disease, and in so doing was among the first to advocate bromides in the treatment of epilepsy. By the 1860's Brown-Séquard was recognized as an authority not only on physiology but more so as an expert on all disorders of the nervous system. Much of his work is summarized in a course of lectures he gave before several university centers in England and America. Definitely one of the most colorful and dynamic of the early investigators, Brown-Séquard easily influenced the neurological tradition of three countries, England, America and France". (MacHenry p. 315/316) ---- Heirs of Hippocrates N° 1843 - DSB II pp. 524/526 - Haymaker pp. 181/186**933/G3‎
