The projected prize did not bring in works of suffficient quality, it was decided to split the prize in two and have new subjects, one of which deals with the influence and importance of Fermat, the great scientist from Toulouse, his contributions to 'la haute Géometrie & du Calcul', the other subject being the question of water supply to the city of Toulouse. ‎
