From Chelwood, 3 Bedford Road, Bedford Park, London, W 4. Dated Dec. 22 1920, Mar. 7 1921, Mar. 28 1921, Apr. 7, 1921‎

‎Dec. 22 1920, 4 pages, with small lackings : "My Dear Khourshed, warmest greetings & best wishes for Xmas & the New Year. I am sorry to hear that you have been ill [ ... ] Your husband write to me just before he was leaving London, to let him know when time came, if I would let him this house. I have decided nothing yet, & shall not I think be in a position to decide till the Spring. It is [ ... ] to hear that [ .... ] thinks your plan can be performed if certain conditions are fulfilled, which you are in a position to fulfill. [... ] It is evidently a musical Plan. Do you want my collaboration in the Libretto ? What is the idea underlying it ? For title, either "At feet of Shiva" or "At Shiva's Feet" would be good English. Some [ ... ]might prefer the one, and some other prefer "At Shiva's Feet". It is shorter, and the rythm is more balanced. As regards [ ... ] I agree with your remarks in the abstracts, but am puzzled to see later application. What is the question that I did [ ... ] but which you want to answer ? What is the question & what is the answer ? Perhaps the sand & waves of Scheveningen are necessary before I can solve the puzzle ? Or perhaps a [ ... ] chair of musical laughter, or perhaps after all, not among these things, but simply [... ] I don't know. That's unfinished conversation - or interrupted [ ... ] : shall we just treasure it because it began at all, & not be impatient because it did not finish ? [ ... ] sunbeams, love themselves in [... ]Mar.7, 1921, 4 pages, with small lackings : "My dear Khourshed, I a glad you are better, & I hope you will soon recover this weakness which must make an eager soul like yours free under the compulsory withdrawal from fields words & the ever-sounding sea. We are having such beautiful weather - [ ... ]summer spring days, with a bite of frost in the mornings, our clear blue skies, through which Orion & Sirius & all the great summer constellations are gradually making their [ ... ] overload. Do you remember the glorious summer days we had in The Hague ? It was autumn then. Now is the sun of Spring, increasing in splendour and strength. Good [ ... ] About my Lecture on Hafiz in the Lyceum Club an Mar. 5th. : I am going to give an account of Hafiz & illustrate his poetry to this audience : 1 - by the singing of one of his Tales in Persian ; 2 - by the singing of this same Ode in an English verse translation in the original metres, & 3 - by explanations of his meanings. I have transleted the Ode which begins [persian text ] [ lacking ] who are going to set it to music & also to find singers if possible. [... ] But you are at a distance, & in this state of your health, I dare not ask you to undertake the strain. I have not seen any english translation of Hafiz that is satisfactory. I do not claim for my translation that it is satisfactory. But it is an honest presentment. [ ... ]I send you my Poem on Rembrandt. If you can make, or have made, two copies without mistakes, I shall ask for one copy to be sent to me & the other for publication to the Gazette de Hollande or any other paper that may like to publish it." Mar. 28,1921, 10 pages, with important lackings : [long letter about his poems on Rembrandt, then, on a second part, about Hafiz ] "Hafiz first addresses his master, the beloved Shiraz. He offers him whole heards, but if he only finds acceptance, what will he not give ? The black mole is rules a blemish, but even for a blemish of their master, he will give what is to him most precious. Samarkand & Bokhara were reputed the two finest cities of the time [... ] The turkish painter whom picture : "Jeune Emir à l'étude" I saw in Liverpool was Osman Hamdu Bey, of Constantinople. He frequently exhibited in Paris and died within this century. If you can get any reproduction of this picture, I shall be obliged" [ ... ]. Apr. 7, 1921 4 pages, very damage, half of the text lacking ‎

‎HELL (Richard).‎

Reference : AWD-749

‎Lettres et documents envoyés à Michel Bulteau entre 1999 et 2002.‎

‎IX-99, carte postale manuscrite envoyée de New York : « I hope September works out. I’m working frantically, getting out the new C42 book and Sheelagh and I are going for a two weeks getaway road trip (to console us for losing France). I can’t wait to see the Mississipi from behind a steering wheel again. I wish you get emails. Where’s Theresa ? (Theresa Stern, pseudonyme utilisé par Richard Hell et Tom Verlaine en 1973 pour Wanna go out ?, un recueil de poésies). 9-VII-99, lettre tapuscrite signée (1 p.), abordant la traduction et la publication en France de ce livre en édition bilingue (titre français : On décolle ?, traduit par Michel Bulteau, Anna Polèrica Éditions, 1999) : « I hear you’ve agreed totranslate Theresa Stern’s ‘Wanna Go Out ?’ I’m happy to hear that. Incidentally, when Raymond Foye saw your POEMES among my books, he rhapsodized over your accomplishments, and an endorsement from Raymond is a meaningful thing… I also hear you asked about my novel so I’m sending it here. The French translation rights have been bought by Editions d’Olivier, though I don’t know yet who they have in mind to translate it. » (Voir L’Oeil du lézard, Éditions de l’Olivier, 1996.) 11-VIII-99 : « (…) Thanks for your note. It looks like ‘Wanna go out’ is definite. I do wish we could speech a few days (or even one !) talking about it, but I’ll try to organize the things I’d like to tell you about certain difficult lines. When are you planning to be working on the translation ? » 13-XI-99, après un passage à Paris : « (…) In fact Paris made me so happy it had an effect I’d never known before. The happiness was so strong and genuine that It even made me like New York more ! I’m not ridding or being ironic or sarcastic. I just felt so refreshed by my time in Paris that everything in life seems better for it. (…) I’m going to do a book by Ron Padgett in the CUZ series. It’s called ‘Poems I think I wrote.’ » I-00 : What the hell is with Anna Polèrica ? Do you think they have lost their minds ? I did get the ten more books but they will not communicate with me. I don’t understand it at all. I could help them get the book distributed in the U.S. but they refuse to reply to me. I miss Paris. It will be the big sadness of my life if I don’t live there. » 27-II-02, mail imprimé : « This file is the text of three poems I used in video ‘poemokes’ (poem karaokes). They’re compilations of images with a musical soundtrack (by me and my band The Dime Stars, which includes Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth) that have the words of these poems scrolling at the bottom of the screen as in a karaoke. If Michel has the time and the inclination to translate these, I’d like to screen these videos with Michel reading into a microphone his French translations. » 16-III-04, court mail imprimé : « My beautiful old friend Lizzie, who was more or less the model for Chrissa in ‘Go Now’- and a picture of whom lying in bed smoking a cigarette with her pants half off can be seen in ‘Hot and Cold’ - is dying of cancer. I’ll be staying at the Hotel I like, the Baudin, in Bastille. » 3-I-05, lettre tapuscrite (2 pp.) : « Here you have the galley proofs I just received from the publisher of my new novel, ‘Godlike’. I am fixing punctuation or changing a word or just making a pest of myself on about every other page of it still, but these proofs are a fair representation of the book. (…) I’m working pretty hard and that’s all I’m aware of. The political situation is horrendous of course and makes for a steady underlying anxiety, but it’s so bad that it’s at that point where resistance seems almost purposeless. We just wait it out. In the beginning I was marching and writing letters and contributing money to activist organizations, but not lately. » On joint un faire-part du mariage de Richard Hell avec Bevan, et une photo couleurs. Bon état.‎

‎A Soldier of the Legion. An Englishman's Adventures under the French Flag in Algeria and Tonquin [ First Edition - With an original photographic portrait signed by George Manington ] ‎

‎Edited by William B. Slater and Arthur J. Sarl, with map and illustrations, 8vo full original red cloth, John Murray, Albemarle Street, London, 1907, xvii-380 pp. with a folding map‎

‎Good condition (very small lack on top joints, otherwise a very good copy) for this copy, complete with the 12 illustrations and the folding map, in which was joined an original photographic portrait of George Manington, signed on a paper pasted on the verso, by himself ! This portrait, preserved under silk paper, appears highly scarce, and no other portrait of George Manington appears to be available or published. As explained in the editors' note, "though well under forty years of age, he had been a student in France and Germany, a prospective doctor in Paris, a soldier in Algeria and Tonquin, a man of commerce in Indo-China, an interpreter, traveller, and journalist in South China, besides a participator in more fleeting occupations in many lands, including Japan and the Philippines. [... ] An educated gentleman, Mr Manington has given an insight into the unusual experiences of an Englishman in the French Foreign[Pg xiii] Legion, such as no ordinary "mercenary" could have done". ‎

‎The healing influence of Active Imagination in a Specific Case of Neurosis [ Unique and exceptional copy with autograph manuscripts and 12 original drawings: Anna Marjula mystery solved ! ]‎

‎A human document, with an Introduction by Barbara Hannah, 8vo paperback, Schippert & Co, Zurich, s.d. [ 1967 ], XII-128 pp. with 12 original colored drawings under an envelope pasted on guard, and autograph text in flemish on 14 leaves (letters, poems) in another one. Full Tite : The healing influence of Active Imagination in a Specific Case of Neurosis [ Unique and exceptional copy with autograph manuscripts and 12 original drawings: Anna Marjula mystery solved ! ]‎

‎Unique copy with 12 original colored symbolical drawings sometimes (3 of them with comments in english) and 14 leaves with manuscript text (3 letters and poems) in flemish. Most of this extra-material is not signed except three letters (two dated 13-5-73 and 28-10-74) signed "Tante Han" or “Hanna”, clearly original work by "Anna Marjula", pseudonym used to protect the identity of the author (The letter "E". On an envelop is written : "These drawings illustrate the fifth conversation with the Great Mother pages 26-27". Many early jungian analysts worked with Anna Marjula (Toni Wolff, Emma Jung or Barbara Hannah), but her real name remained unknown, until now (but we knew it was a pianist). Indeed, our research allowed us to identify the recipient, Ms. Parvati Chavoix-Jodjana ("Vati") but especially the author, who hides behind the pseudonym of Anna Marjula : the famous dutch pianist and composer Hanna Beekhuis (1889-1980) ! A newspaper clipping is joined on a postcard, (that we join), titled : "Gouden medaille voor Hanna Beekhuis" and here's the translation : "Gold medal for Hanna Beekhuis: Arnhem, 3 Oct. - The Dutch composer of chamber music works and songs, Hanna Beekhuis from Ellecom, who currently resides in Zurich, has won a gold medal and an honorary diploma with "Reflet du Japon", a composition for viola and viola at an international competition held in Buenos Aires". It is known she won this medal in 1961.Hanna Beekhuis resided in Zurich, and was previously in relationship with Carl Jung (28 letters or copy of letters between Jung and Hanna Beekhuis, from 1942 until 1960, would be kept in the ETH-Bibliothek). Barbara Hannah explains in her preface that “Professor Jung had, however, once spoken to Anna of including it in a volume of case histories, and, as he died before he had collected the other cases, she was naturally disappointed”. We identify well the identical writing of "Aunt Hanna" with that present on the handwritten drawings, and with the only autograph word reproduced in the work - "Eve".Our incredible copy comes from Parvati Chavoix-Jodjana, daughter of a famous javanese dancer in France, Raden Mas Jodjana (1893-1972) and his wife Raden Ayou. Hanna Beekhuis accompanied the dancer in the 1920s. Another interesting relation with Jungian Psychanalysis is that the Jodjana were friends with Kurt Binswanger and his wife Erica since 1935.Here's some translated extract on a signed letter : “You said me that your Father has become your Guru. What is a guru ? [… ] Your father told me that he was a free thinker. I am that too but Christianity [ … ] is still in blood”. In another one : "The Jodjanas" have meant a lot to me in the course of my life, especially your father, [ … ] your mother too”.‎
