(1548)

"Petri seems to have used an entirely different set of blocks for all of the illustrations for his edition... The woodcuts of plants are finely cut, delicate and lively, and much in the character of the best done in Brunfels and Fuchs, though a good deal smaller" (Hunt). Adams C-2929; Hunt 58.Second edition of Petri, with here new woods. "The woodcuts of plants are finely cut, delicate and lively, and much in the character of the best done in Brunfels and Fuchs, though a good deal smaller "(Hunt). Nice copy of this Basel edition of this work of rural economy, written in the fourteenth century by Pierre de Crescens. It was one of the earliest texts in the history of printing: it went to press in 1471 in Augsburg. The abundant iconography shows the life of the peasants, their instruments, the method of cultivation, the sizes, the picking, an entire chapter is dedicated to the vine, from the vine to the barrel. Cattle are also processed, as well as hunting and falconry. Halo at the upper edge of the leaves, running throughout the volume but decreasing, very nice copy nevertheless. Adams C-2929; Hunt 58. ‎
