‎ Un verset du sixième chapitre de la Genèse inspira l’idée de "The loves of the angels" à Moore, en même temps qu’il donna à Byron le motif d’un poème. Le mystère de lord Byron ("Heaven and Earth, a mystery") parut peu de temps avant que Moore ne publie son poème. Deux poètes amis écrivant sur le même sujet, voici ce qui explique la présence du poème de Moore dans une reliure dédiée à Byron, de même que la présence ici de "Rhymes on the road" s'explique par la dédicace à Byron. L'Age de bronze, est la satire du congrès de Vérone (1822), quant à "The vision of judgment" c'est une réponse satirique (écrite sous le nom de Quevedo "recyclé", poète espagnol du XVIIe siècle, connu pour ses satires tranchants) à la Vision du Jugement de Robert Southey publié en 1820 à la mémoire de George III. 3 texte de Byron, 2 de Moore. ‎

Bonnet July 1854 - , bound in original light brown clothbound, covers blindpressed, spine with title and ornaments gilt, top of spine with small restoration, in all a fine copy in original publishers cloth. Rare.‎

‎Première édition anglaise. Un bel album d’estampes sur l’Oberland. Très rare et très recherché. (cf. Perret sous Weibel). Perret mentionne sous Lory, n° 2696: ‘Souvenirs de la Suisse...pour faire suite au Voyage Pittoresque dans l’Oberland Bernois’, sans pour autant mentionner ‘le Voyage Pittoresque’, lui-même de 1822 (éd. de Paris), et il confond, selon moi, 2 éditions différentes .First English edition in a beautiful publisher’s binding. Seventeen hand-coloured aquatint views without signatures. The work is considered to be an English version of the work by Phil. Alb. Stapfer «Voyage pittoresque de l'Oberland ou Description ...» published in Paris, in- folio,1812, with 1 frontispice by Duncker and 14 coloured plates after G. Lory by S. Weibel which was also published in 1822 in Paris and Strasbourg. In this edition 11 views are by J.S. Weibel & 6 by F. Schmid, F. Schutz, M. Wocher & G. Lory. But ‘Some of the plates in Ackermann’s book, judging by the titles, do not correspond with any in the Voyage Pittoresque done in Paris. (Abbey Travel). These fine coloured views of Swiss lakes, mountains, glaciers & towns, all in typical warm, summerly English colours, are showing: 1 - ‘Bern’, 2 - ‘View near Thun’, 3 - ‘View of Thun’, 4 - ‘View of the Lake of Thun. ‎Das Meiringer Thal im Canton Bern. Aquarell und Tempera über Bleistift auf Karton mit in Schwarz und breiter in Grau getuschter Einfassung. ‎

‎ 1819, 53.5x74.5 cm, unten links mit Tusche signiert ‘Natur. fecit ...’ und datiert, verso hs. mit brauner Tinte eigenhändig in deutscher Kurrentschrift der Zeit ausführlich bezeichnet, in schöner alter Rahmen.‎

‎Schön komponiertes Landschaftsbild in fein abgestuften und warm leuchtenden frischen Farben vom berühmten Maler, Verleger und Kupferstecher, der auf Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall eine eigene Malschule gründete und sich vor allem auf kolorierte Kupferstiche von Landschaftsansichten spezialisierte. Neben seinem unternehmerischen Erfolg wurde er aber auch für seine Landschaftsgouachen (wie diese hier) geschätzt. Die Ansicht zeigt im Vordergrund kleine feine Gestalten, welche den Betrachter ins Bild führen: einen Berner Sennen, der sich auf ein Butterfass stützt, und neben ihm eine Sennerin mit einer Kuh sowie mehreren Geissen. Den Rest des Bildes hat der Künstler (wohl eigenhändig) auf der Rückseite des Bildes beschrieben: „das Meiringer Thal im Canton Bern. Wenn man von Brienz her kömt, so führt bey der Brüke über die Aare ein Weg gegen den Brünigberge - an dessen Fuss diese Ansicht aufgenommen ist - am Ende des Thales zeigt sich die Kirche und verschiedene Höchsthäuser von Meiringen - dahinter erhebt sich der Susten - das Sustenhorn und der Gallensto(c)k, links der Brünig und rechts die Scheidek - die Wasserfälle sind, der nähere der Ol(t)schibach und die fernern, die Wandelbäche.“ Das Schwarz in der Umrandung krakeliert, das Grau minimal fleckig, kleiner Kratzer im linken Rand, ansonsten nahezu tadellos erhalten.
