(Washington, Government Printing Office, 1915). 8vo. As extracted from ""the Annual Report of the Smithsonian Institution"". A fine and clean copy. Pp. 209-216.
First printing of Orville Wright's speech on the longitudinal equilibrium, or how to keep the stability of aeroplanes, thus being one of the very first manuals on how to fly an aeroplane. ""Although in learning to fly the beginner finds most difficulty in mastering the lateral control, it is his lack of knowledge of certain features of the fore-and-aft equilibrium that leads to most of the serious accidents"". (From the introduction to the present speach). The Wright brothers were early on aware of the importance of longitudinal control. Most of the early airplanes - the ones that could actually lift off ground - had the decisive flaw of having bad, in some cases non-existing, longitudinal control which eventually caused the airplanes to crash. In the summer of 1910, the Wright Company introduced what would become their most popular aircraft - the Wright Model B. The Model B was a pusher biplane with wing warping to control roll, like their earlier aircraft. But unlike earlier aircrafts it also had a conventional tail assembly, which gave it better longitudinal stability, and it rested on wheels rather than skids, doing away with the need to launch the aircraft from a rail. This model was produced from 1910 through 1914. In 1911 the U.S. Congress made its first appropriation for military aviation. Four airplanes were ordered and numbers 3 and 4 were Wright Model B's. Both were accepted at Fort Sam Houston, Texas on April 17, 1911.The two brothers were also investigating automatic stability systems. They devised a mechanism that could sense changes in attitude and longitude which would make compensating adjustments to keep the aircraft flying evenly in the desired direction. It consisted of a pendulum, which sensed and controlled roll or yaw, and a vane, which sensed the aircraft's pitch. They applied for a patent for this automatic stabilizing system on February 8, 1908.""The culmination of the Wrights’ achievements came with Wilbur’s two flights at New York in 1909. On 29 September, taking off from and landing at Governors Island, he made a circuit of the Statue of Liberty"" on 4 October he flew a twenty-one-mile course to Grant’s Tomb and back. After their triumph the brothers quietly turned to teaching others to fly and to directing the Wright Company. They now had many imitators and rivals, and were forced to defend their pioneer patent in the courts."" (DSB).

Frank Lloyd Wright (June 8, 1867 ? April 9, 1959) was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years. Wright played a key role in the architectural movements of the twentieth century, influencing architects worldwide through his works and hundreds of apprentices in his Taliesin Fellowship. Wright believed in designing in harmony with humanity and the environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was exemplified in Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture".

As a friend and cohort of some of rock music's biggest legends - The Who, Rod Stewart and The Faces, The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Joe Walsh and many others - photographer Tom Wright was given unparalleled access to almost every aspect of the musicians' lives, on and off stage. With a foreword by The Who's Pete Townshend, "Roadwork" is a compilation of Wright's groundbreaking photography and the true stories behind the captivating pictures. Gritty and realistic, poignant and beautiful, Wright's photos powerfully deconstruct the glamour of life on the road, capturing the true essence of rock and roll: the musicians, roadies, fans and beautiful women who follow the bands. Over the year, Wright has allowed almost no commercial access to his work; and his photographs have been available to only the musicians he's worked with and a handful of record company executives...until now.

2005 2005. Ronald Wright La Sagaie D'Henderson (Acts South 2005) The description of this item has been automatically translated. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us. paperback book 431 pages translated from English by Henri Theureau; bookstore value 24 euros. IN GOOD CONDITION second hand; interior clean and still fresh without tears or annotations; very few folds on the cover but some traces of rubbing especially at the hinges. Henderson's Sagaie is not one but two novels braided with each other so as to complement and echo each other. Liv's misadventures in the political labyrinth of contemporary Polynesia and those of his ancestor Frank Henderson in the political labyrinth of Victorian England represent two different versions of the same story. In both cases the intrigue goes far beyond the personal situations of the protagonists: it concerns entire societies and its roots plunge into the depths of a dark past. [. ] The history of a society whatever it is of Victorian England or the Marquesas Islands is too complex for one to be able to distill ordinary history into an incontestable narration. (.) At the end the reader will know everything that is to say everything that can be learned from a story constantly forced to change such as the countless successive versions of a myth whose the truth must be perceived through these incessant narrative overlays. In this sense Henderson's Sagaie is as true historically as any ancient myth. That should be enough. Biography: Born in England where he grew up Ronald Wright now lives in British Columbia. Author of the famous novel A Scientific Romance recipient of the David Higham Prize in 1998 and voted Book of the Year by the Sunday Times and the New York Times Ronald Wright is also renowned for his travel books. His work is translated into several languages. of course grouped shipping costs in case of multiple purchases. Perlenbook company n ° Siret 49982801100010.
