Recto of leaves each with 4 engraved illustrations, verso with text. With in all with 826 (of 831) engraved illustrations, each measuring 13x9 cm. One illustration removed affecting the text on verso. A few tears to leaves. Some margins a bit frayed. Some scattered brownspots mostly marginal. The engravings in clear impressions.
First edition. - Brunet V:1428. According to Brunet the engraved illustrations are the same as in an edition of the bible, Frankfurt, 1696 in 7 volumes.- Graesse VII:429.

4. Oblong in-plano, 36 x 44,5 cm, signed in print [L.S.] Fried. Carl Graf von Schönborn, upper margin seriously frayed (without loss of text however), lower margin with clear water stains. (document should be restored and moubted). Rare broad-side licence. The text (ca.400 words) gives a description of the the book and the purpose of publishing it. It also states that the printer will use a new and special technique.

Contemporary marbled boards with wear especially at the corners and top and end of spine, small stroke of paper cut out at the lower end margin of the title page (not into the plate), some slight foxing, notwithstanding these defects still a reasonably good copy of this rare emblematical book. With a modern ex-lbris pasted on the inside of the front cover; Architekt Sonnehansen. Landwehr 641. Praz 533/34. Faber du Faur 1845.."
