‎ Première édition. Ce beau recueil d'emblèmes est illustré par 100 gravures sur cuivre, sur 2/3 de la page, des peintres et graveurs Jan et Casper Luyken. Toutes ont été mises en couleurs à l'époque, condition rare. Ces images nous présentent les humains confrontés à la nature, les animaux, les saisons, les météores, les cataclysmes... De jolies scènes, parfois étranges, qui nous montrent la vie et les paysages de l'Europe du Nord en ce temps là. Les exemplaires en couleurs sont apparemment rarissimes. Nous n'avons pas retrouvé d'autre exemplaire colorié qui soit passé en vente, ni décrit ainsi dans les bibliothèques. Auréole d'humidité en marge d'une dizaine de feuillets à la fin. Bon exemplaire. A beautiful collection of emblems with 100 copper engravings by painters and engravers Jan and Casper Luyken, covering two-thirds of each page. All are contemporary hand-colored, which is a rare condition. The images depict humans confronted with nature, animals, the seasons, meteors, and cataclysms. The scenes are beautiful, sometimes strange, and show the life and landscapes of Northern Europe at that time. Colored copies are apparently extremely rare. We have not found any other colored copies for sale, nor have we found any descriptions of them in public libraries. There is a light damp stain in the margins of about ten leaves at the end. ‎.: 4. Oblong in-plano, 36 x 44,5 cm, signed in print [L.S.] Fried. Carl Graf von Schönborn, upper margin seriously frayed (without loss of text however), lower margin with clear water stains. (document should be restored and moubted). Rare broad-side licence. The text (ca.400 words) gives a description of the the book and the purpose of publishing it. It also states that the printer will use a new and special technique.‎

Contemporary marbled boards with wear especially at the corners and top and end of spine, small stroke of paper cut out at the lower end margin of the title page (not into the plate), some slight foxing, notwithstanding these defects still a reasonably good copy of this rare emblematical book. With a modern ex-lbris pasted on the inside of the front cover; Architekt Sonnehansen. Landwehr 641. Praz 533/34. Faber du Faur 1845.."‎
