‎London, (Wyman for) W.M. Thompson, 1876, in-4to, VIII + 12 chromolithogr. plates with their descriptions, exlibris Peter E. Obergfell, full brown cloth binding, covers with rich gilt (front) and blindstamped (back) decoration, gilt title on circular blue cloth in centre, some slight rubbing.‎


‎By the famous mountain painter Elijah Walton, author of the superbe illustrated alpine book ‘The peaks and valleys of the Alpes’ published the same year. The ‘Flowers...’ is a most charming work with 12 full page chromolithographs, representing beautiful alpine flowers, with appropriate landscape backgrounds of peaks, rocks or glaciers. Pure shaped, delicate, and transparent in colour, with tints admirably blended by gradations almost as fine as wrought by hand.With commentary by the English geologist Thomas George Bonney (1833-1923), another great alpinist and naturalist at the time.
