‎Een tentoonstelling in Antwerpen in 2006, getiteld Vorstelijke vluchtelingen. William en Margaret Cavendish in het Rubenshuis, besteedde aandacht aan de oversteek van de hertog en de hertogin naar de Nederlanden. Het uit Engeland verbannen koningsgezinde paar vestigde zich aanvankelijk in Rotterdam: dicht bij de hofhouding van Willem II en zijn vrouw Mary Stuart. Het stadhouderlijk vertoon werd echter spoedig te kostbaar voor de Cavendishes, zodat ze naar Antwerpen uitweken. Daar bewoonden ze van 1648 tot 1660 het huis van Rubens, door de schilder zelf ontworpen en gedecoreerd. Boek verscheen naar aanleiding van de gelijnamige tentoonstelling in het Rubenshuis : 1 oktober - 31 december 2006. Nieuw boek, dat ook verkrijgbaar is in het engels onder de titel : 'Royalist Refugees'.‎

‎ Artiste aux multiples talents, Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) fut non seulement le peintre le plus important de son temps, mais aussi un expert en architecture implique, a Anvers, dans des projets de construction sensationnels. Le plus connu est sa propre maison. En 1610, Rubens acheta une maison avec terrain sur le Wapper, pres du Meir, la rue la plus huppee de la ville. Il la fit modifier selon ses propres plans, y ajoutant un portique, un atelier de peinture, une galerie de sculptures en demi-cercle et un pavillon de jardin. Ainsi transformee en fonction des ideaux artistiques de Rubens, l'Antiquite classique et l'art italien, la maison acquit le rayonnement d'un authentique palazzo et devint une des curiosites incontournables de la ville. Rubens trouva l'inspiration pour ses activites d'architecte chez de grands peintres-architectes comme Michel-Ange et Jules Romain, ainsi que dans des ouvrages italiens sur l'architecture. Lui-meme publia un livre consacre a l'architecture, ou il proposa des modeles modernes, comme ceux qu'il avait vus en Italie. De meme, dans nombre de ses tableaux, il se revele un grand connaisseur de l'architecture antique et contemporaine. Palazzo Rubens. ‎The art of Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) is synonymous with the female nude, with the term 'Rubenesque' first coined in the 19th century to describe a voluptuous female body. Yet remarkably, there has never been a focused study of Rubens' depictions of women, making this book, and the exhibition that it will accompany, a first. Bringing together a diverse range of paintings and drawings from throughout the artist's career and from a range of international lenders, the exhibition at Dulwich Picture Gallery (October 2023 - January 2024) will challenge the popular assumption that Rubens only painted one type of woman. Instead, it will present a more nuanced view of the varied and essential role that women played in the artist's life and work, uniting and contributing to recent scholarly developments in subjects such as the identities of Rubens' sitters, 17th century artistic theory and practice, and Rubens' treatment of the human body. Rubens evidently enjoyed painting the female figure, especially in its sensual and unclothed form. But his women are never mere bodies trapped by the male gaze, on the contrary; they are proud and complex heroines, full of character and gravitas. No other male artist has created such potent images of female power, assurance, determination, commitment, and beauty. Providing a catalogue for the works in the exhibition and featuring three introductory essays that contextualise Rubens' work, this publication will both contribute to the existing corpus of scholarly literature on Rubens and introduce his masterpieces to new audiences, discussing them in the context of current debates around sexuality, power and feminism. ‎
