Bruxelles, Rémy Havermans, s.d. (1913), lg. in-4°, 30 x 24,5 cm, 90 nn pp, printed at one side, containing 16 delicately coloured full-page lino-engravings by Edgard Tijtgat.. Original illustrated wrapper. Printed .in 110 copies, this being copy n°39 on Japan paper, signed and numbered in pencil by the artist. A perfect copy of the first illustrated book by the artist. (Taillart nr. 17). This publication by Tijtgat is much rarer then the printed number suggests. Upon his homecoming after the First World War , which the artist had spent in London, he contacted the printer Havermans where he had left the unsold copies of this book, published just before the war. Tijtgat was severely disappointed to discover that many of the unsold copies where damaged and had become worthless due to bad stocking conditions.
