Vicente Tofio de San Miguel (Cdiz, 1732 - San Fernando, 1795), fue un marino, cosmgrafo y matemtico de inmensa repercusin cientfica en su poca. La importancia de su labor se puede comparar a la de otros marinos de la poca ilustrada como Jorge Juan o Antonio Ulloa.En 1783 fue nombrado jefe de la comisin hidrogrfica, integrada por miembros de la marina con el fin de realizar el levantamiento cartogrfico de las costas de Espaa. Para llevar a cabo esta empresa, entre 1783 y 1788 emprendi una serie de expediciones a bordo de la fragata Santa Perpetua y los bergantines Vivo y Natalia, en las que se utilizaron las tcnicas geodsicas ms avanzadas de la poca, combinando las operaciones martimas con las terrestres.Esemplare marginoso, ben conservato.‎

‎ Beau plan du port de Bilbao, publié en 1793 par le Dépôt des Cartes et Plans de la Marine d'après le plan levé en 1789 par Tofiño de San Miguel. Le nord est situé au bas de la carte. Astronome espagnol originaire de Galice, Tofiño de San Miguel entra très tôt dans la Marine. En 1770, il fut nommé professeur de l'Académie des Gardes Marines. La Guerre d'Indépendance en Amérique ayant convaincu Charles III d'Espagne de la nécessité d'augmenter sa marine et d'encourager les progrès de la navigation, il chargea en 1783 Tofiño de San Miguel de parcourir les côtes d'Espagne. Son Atlas maritimo de España fut l'une des publications cartographiques espagnoles les plus importantes, à la base de la cartographie moderne espagnole. Bel exemplaire.‎
