Sammelband containing, among other works, Johann Tarnow’s last two works, both rarely found in the trade. Johann Tarnow (Johannes Tarnovius) (1586–1629) was a German Lutheran theologian and professor. He studied theology at the University of Rostock from 1604 and later traveled for further studies to Giessen, Jena, Wittenberg, Strasbourg and Basel. In 1614, he earned his master's degree in Strasbourg and returned to Rostock as a professor of theology obtaining his doctorate in 1619. His research focused on the Old Testament and he wrote several biblical commentaries. Around 1620 he joined a scholarly circle in Rostock which led to the founding of the Societas Ereunetica sive Zezetica in 1622, Germany’s first scientific society.
