Histoire politique, religieuse et culturelle du peuple juif. La première édition a été publiée en 1582. L'ouvrage a fait longtemps autorité puisqu'il a été réédité jusqu'au 19e siècle. Carlo Sigonio ou Carolus Sigonius (1520-1584) était historien et homme de lettres, professeur de grec et d'éloquence à Modène, Venise, Padoue et Bologne. Les deux premiers feuillets effrangés dans ses bordures, petits manques en coin et dans la marge supérieure des premiers feuillets. Travaux de vers très fins dans la marge inférieure, plus marqués cahiers F et G. Quelques traces d'humidité claires. La reliure est fraiche. USTC 619606. /// In-8 de 393, (23) pp. Vélin. It was an authoritative work for a long time and was reprinted until the 19th century. The first two leaves chipped in its edges, small lacks in the corner and in the upper margin of the first leaves. Very thin worm work in the lower margin, more marked quires F and G. Nouvelle édition de cet ouvrage d'une grande érudition sur les différentes formes de gouvernement des Hébreux, les institutions religieuses et les rites anciens, depuis les premiers temps jusqu'à la chute de Jérusalem. La première édition avait été imprimée à Bologne en 1582. Cette édition est la réimpression à l'identique de l'édition de Francfort de 1583. Carlo Sigonio (Modène, 1524-1584) fut l'un des plus grands érudits de la renaissance. "Aucun savant, excepté Scaliger, n'avait encore déployé dans ses recherches tant de profondeur et d'exactitude à la fois. Il a ouvert à l'histoire des routes nouvelles ; il a éclairci les antiquités de Rome et de la Grèce. Premier et second volume de la série réunie par Henri Estienne sur l'histoire romaine. Il contiennent l'important commentaire de Carlo Siginio sur les fastes et triomphes des Romains et sur les noms des Romains, ainsi que l'histoire romaine de Velleius Paterculus dans la version établie par Beatus Rhenanus. Le second volume comprend les textes grecs de l'Epitome de Dion Cassius et l'Histoire romaine d'Hérodien. Les quatre volumes de cette anthologie historique avaient été imprimés séparément, bien que seul le premier volume soit muni d'un feuillet de titre. Prima edizione del 1580 di questa monumentale opera sulla storia d'Italia scritta da Carlo Sigonio (Modena 1524- Ponte Basso (Modena) 1584) storico e letterato insegnante di Umanità presso l'Università di Bologna. L'opera è composta da due parti legate insieme, ognuna con proprio frontespizio, ed è completa. Il primo tomo è l'edizione del 1580. La lettera del tipografo all'editore è stata legata alla fine del primo tomo mentre l'indice dello stesso alla fine del volume. Il secondo tomo è la rara edizione veneziana del 1591, lo stampatore Franciscum Senensem. L'autore dedicò gli ultimi anni della sua vita alla stesura dell'opera che tratta meticolosamente il periodo che va dall'anno 565 al 1286. Vignetta xilografia in ogni frontespizio. Al tomo primo: Figura femminile loricata: Bologna che tiene col braccio sinistro la cornucopia e con il destro lo stendardo con la scritta Libertas. Motto: Bononia docet. In buone condizioni. Copertina in mezza pelle ottocentesca con titolo in oro al dorso in buone condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in discrete condizioni con lievi rotture. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con rare fioriture. Segni di tarlo marginali alle prime 12 carte. Restauro al verso del frontespizio e alla carta A2. In folio.
