22,5 x 18,5 Londres 1840 "Londres 12 juillet. Mon cher ami, je vous recommande vivement M. Ragemann de Brême, pianiste distingué, qui compte rester quelques semaines à Paris. C'est un bien bon et digne jeune homme pour lequel je vous prie d'avoir l'amabilité qui vous caractérise. Adieu, bien des choses à Madame et à Mylord. Tout à vous de coeur. S. Thalberg." - Adresse au dos: 'Monsieur Le Chevalier Pierre Erard, 13 rue du Mail, Paris." Sigismund Thalberg est un pianiste et un compositeur autrichien, réputé pour sa virtuosité et rival de Liszt. Il fit de nombreuses tournées sur la scène européenne dans les années 1835-1845. à Paris, à Bruxelles, à Vienne, à Berlin, à Saint-Pétersbourg et notamment à Londres en 1837-1838-1840-1845. . Pierre Erard (rue du mail à Paris, 1794 - château de la Muette à Passy, 1855) a succédé à Paris à son oncle Sébastien à la tête de la célèbre manufacture de pianos et de harpes en 1831. Il a été fait chevalier de la Légion d'honneur en 1834 sous la Monarchie de Juillet. Il s'est marié en 1838. Les deux hommes se connaissent bien. La revue de Paris de 1836 évoque un dîner organisé par Pierre Erard, où furent conviés Thalberg, fraichement arrivé de Londres et le compositeur italien Cherubini. Thalberg possédera ainsi un piano Erard et il participera activement par la suite à la diffusion des pianos Erard lors de ses tournées. Il semble vraisemblable que la lettre soit datée des années 1840. Très bon état, papier vergé aux bords dorés, déchirure sur le deuxième feuillet à l'endroit du cachet, petit cachet de cire rouge.
