‎LONDRES 1872 Un acte Notarié Manuscrit à l'encre brune, rouge et noire, sur velin (doubles feuilles écrites d'un seul côté), format : 70,5 x 55 cm, avec en bas 6 cachets de cire rouge "aux armes", signatures, cachet sec bleu et argent ten schillings, cachet encre noir de la couronne London 2/10/72, daté du 30 Décembre 1872, ceci est l'acte marqué B visée de Charles Ughtred Shuttleworth et rose Isabella susan Shuttleworth sous serment devant moi 14 TH Dayol avril 1882, en la Haute Cour de Justice, division de la Chancellerie (LONDON), HALL vice-chancelier,‎

‎En Mars 1850, James et Janet ont accueilli Charlotte Brontë, qui avait publié anonymement "Jane Eyre" seulement trois ans auparavant. Charlotte a visité à nouveau Gawthorpe Hall en Janvier 1855, seulement deux mois avant sa mort le 31 Mars, et son association avec Gawthorpe Hall fait de lui un arrêt populaire sur " l'Itineraire Brontë" à ce jour......L'histoire de Gawthorpe Hall semblait bouclée après la mort de Janet en 1872, quand son fils aîné, Ughtred Kay-Shuttleworth - du nom de son ancêtre du 14e siècle - a hérité les biens de sa mère. à l'époque victorienne, Ughtred vécu à Gawthorpe Hall avec sa femme et ses six enfants et a eu une carrière politique florissante qui l'a vu servir député libéral de Hastings de 1869 à 1880, et pour Clitheroe 1885-1902, quand il a été élevé à la pairie comme Baron Shuttleworth (1er Seigneur Shuttleworth) pour ses services politiques. Entre 1908 et 1928, il était lord lieutenant de Lancashire et ce est à ce titre qu'il a diverti le roi George V et la reine Mary à Gawthorpe Hall en 1913..... M. Internally clean and tidy throughout. 28 pages. 215 x 135 mm (8œ x 5Œ inches). Shuttleworth was the Rector of Foxley in Wiltshire, and a warden of New College, Oxford.‎

‎Tabulae ineditae Molluscorum Insularum Canariensum.‎

‎1975 (W. Backhuys ed.) 43 p., 8 col. lithographed pls, 1 portrait, 4to, hardbound. The plates in this book are the original handcoloured plates from 1853(!) which were not published during Shuttleworth's life and lay forgotten in the Natural History Museum at Bern. Only 141 copies with coloured plates were issued. Many new species were here illustrated for the first time.‎

Small stamp of Cor Karnekamp in the top margin of the front free endpaper. One plate with the lower (blank) margin a bit toned, otherwise a spotless copy.Beautifully illustrated.‎
