Deux petites perforations en marge gauche de la carte, comme habituellement dans la collection de Juan Luis Buñuel. Sandra" En 1939, Luis Buñuel, qui venait de recevoir une proposition de travail à Hollywood, décide, avec femme et enfant, de quitter la situation chaotique de l'Europe pour vivre l'American Dream. Les Buñuel, désargentés, transitent d'abord quelques mois par New York où ils vivent dans des conditions précaires. Luis Buñuel se voit contraint de demander à Dali - son ami de longue date en exil avec Gala dans ces mêmes années - de lui prêter de l'argent. Il essuie un violent refus qui met fin à l'amitié des deux hommes. C'est alors Calder, que Luis a peut-être déjà rencontré à Paris dans les années 1920, qui accueille toute la famille dans son appartement de l'Upper Side. Juan Luis Buñuel, filleul de l'artiste, suppose que son intérêt pour la sculpture a commencé à la même période : « Quand Dali dit à mon père qu'il ne lui prêterait pas d'argent, il l'a contacté [Calder]. Il nous a offert sa maison et nous avons vécu au côté de sa famille pendant quelque temps. Je ne m'en rappelle que vaguement, mais c'est alors que j'ai commencé à m'intéresser à la sculpture et il m'a encouragé. » (Anton Castro, Juan Luis una entrevista). En dépit de la distance géographique qui les séparera, Alexander Calder demeurera un ami de la famille Buñuel. ‎Summary Archaeological periodization schemes of material culture development in Northern Mesopotamia from 7th to 5th centuries BCE traditionally refer to the sequence of dynasties. In particular, they highlight historical events related to distinguished members of the royal houses of the Sargonids, Urartians, Medes, Teispids, and Achaemenids. However, whereas the repercussions these Iron Age empires had on the history of the Near East are undeniable, the impact they had on the material culture and its development is not always equally tangible in the archaeological findings. The latter are not infrequently characterized by continuity rather than by incisive changes, as recent studies and re-evaluations of key sites in Syria, Iraq, Iran and Armenia show. This publication uses case studies to address problems that arises when the archaeological (relative concept) and historical (absolute concept) methodology use different intrinsic values of time to reconstruct history and to understand cultural material development. ‎Halverwege de zestiende eeuw was Christoffel Plantijn al een beroemdheid; zelfs koning Filips II was onder de indruk van zijn drukkerij. Terwijl andere drukkers met n of hooguit enkele persen werkten, beschikte Plantijn over maar liefst 22 drukpersen. Hij publiceerde alle belangrijke auteurs op het gebied van literatuur en wetenschap, en werkte in opdracht van de stad Antwerpen, de Staten-Generaal, de koning en de Leidse universiteit. Vanuit Antwerpen probeerde Plantijn de samenleving, die was verdeeld door godsdiensttwisten, oorlog en opstand, te binden met boeken. Hij geloofde dat vrede en voorspoed binnen handbereik zouden komen als men elkaar zou vinden in een gemeenschappelijke taal. Daarom gaf hij het allereerste Nederlandse woordenboek uit en begon hij een onmenselijk groot project: een vijftalige studiebijbel die beroemd is geworden als Plantijns Polyglot. Hoewel dit project zijn drukkerij aan de rand van de afgrond bracht en zijn relatie met mecenas Filips II op scherp zette, vestigde Plantijn met de prestigieuze uitgave zijn naam als grootste uitgever ter wereld. Op indringende wijze vestigt Sandra Langereis met De woordenaar de aandacht op een opmerkelijk leven in de zestiende eeuw, en op de geschiedenis van de Nederlanden in Antwerpen.‎
