‎1 page in-folio oblong. Sceau de papier du juge. Très bel état, sauf quelques rousseurs. Document concernant le paiement d’une dette de 318 pounds, 9 shillings et 8 pences par Montague Tremble à Thomas Forsyth, avocat par procuration de James Ellice, marchand de Schenectady (N. Y.). Reid ordonne de saisir les biens et terres de Tremble si la dette n’est pas réglée. Edward Southouse signe comme témoin en marge et aussi à l’endos du jugement daté du 27 septembre 1788. [ Edward Southouse, avocat général de la Province de Québec et juge à la Cour des plaidoyers communs du district de Montréal de 1776 à 1789 ].‎

Very good condition.‎

‎Rare Swiss travel work printed for private circulation, known neither by de Beer, Wäber BSL, Barth or Perret. Not even the Swiss national library or any other source looked up by us knows about this little work. The title page shows a funny citation of Byron: “'Tis pleasant then to see one's name in print - A book's a book although there's nothing in't”. Of course they visited mainly the Alpine regions and their glaciers. The full page wood engravings represent the "Monte Rosa, from the Italian side (as frontispice)" and "A Swiss diligence" the 3 other in-text ill. ‘A girl’s (wooden) shoe’, ’An Italian policeman, and ,The Edelweiss’ (flower). With an ex-dono in pencil on the first page by his wife Riet Vandenboorns and a private note in another hand on the inside of the upper cover. Private edition, without a title page ( as published). Printed in a restricted number of copies, for private circulation only. Memoirs of James W. Reid (1933 - 2016) born in London, his father a colonel in the British army, went to the USA and married Riet Vandenbooms ( of Dutch descent). Took an active part as colonel in the Vietnam war and bombing missions in Cambodia, served later in Argentina and Peru as US military attaché. In Peru he developped an intrest in pre-columbian textiles and became a foremost expert in that field , on which he also published. He had a great intrest in art and was also a lifelong member of the Parisian '' Salon d'Automne ''. The author describes his life in great detail, with many illustrations of his family, his friends, the places he visited...‎

Glasgow, James Maclehose and Sons, 1912, in-folio, 39 x 28 cm, title printed in red and black with tipped on vignette + xvii pp + 239 pp with 83 photolithographic plates of paintings, bound in publisher's half vellum, top edge gilt, printed in 230 numbered copies on high quality paper, binding and inner edge a bit dustsoiled but still a fine copy with a stainless interior. The collection was particularly strong on Dutch 19th century painting - Jozef Israëls, Jacob Maris , Anton Mauve , Willem Maris , Bernardus Blommers, but contained also 7 Corot paintings and the finished pastel study for the famous Angelus painting by Millet as well..‎
