Het zijn middeleeuwse bijbelhandschriften, zeldzame teksten van klassieke auteurs of 16de- en 17de-eeuwse manuscripten die aan de Plantijnse uitgeverij bezorgd werden. Kroonjuwelen zijn de tweedelige Boheemse Wenceslasbijbel (1402-03), de Kronieken van Jean Froissart (15de eeuw) en getijdenboeken uit de Nederlanden. Deze publicatie toont een selectie van deze handschriften, vaak verlucht met weergaloos penwerk of magnifieke miniaturen.‎

‎Unique poster, printed on vellum in 1899, on the occasion of the festivities and an exhibition to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of the Antwerp painter Antoon van Dijck.‎

‎ Antwerpen, Plantin Press, October 1899, poster size 55 x 40 cm, printed in red and black with types and vignets of the Plantin-Moretus Museum. The document has a typographical border, printed in gilt, with floral motifs. The style of this border points to the Antwerp printer and publisher Buschmann. The poster (document) is printed as a gift of the organizing committee to August Beernaert to thank him for his support for the festivities. It bears the holograph signatures of Max Rooses (curator of the Plantin-Moretus Museum), Jan van Rijswijck (mayor of Antwerp) and Georges Caroly (art maecenas). August Beernaert (Oostende 1829 - Luzern 1912) was a Belgian catholic statesman . He was Belgium's prime minister from 1884 until 1894. He was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1909. He was an ardent art collector. The Plantin-Moretus museum opened in 1877. The first curator Max Rooses made frequently use of the typographical material of the former printing house to publish e.g suites of 16th or 17th engravings. Some of the items were of an ephemerical nature such as this unique poster printed on vellum.‎

‎Bruxelles, Plantin, sans date (circa 1928). Grand in-8 - 20 x 27,5 cm. Reliure à la Bradel de l’éditeur, en pleine toile noire, dos lisse et premier plat titrés à l’or, filet à froid en encadrement des plats, tranches aubergines. XII, (1 f.), 106 pp., (I f.), 107-159 pp. (I f.), 160- 200 pp. (pagination continue), 3 pp. (supplément). Ouvrage multilingue : principalement en français, flamand et néerlandais mais aussi en anglais, allemand, espagnol et latin. Exemplaire enrichi d'une lettre commerciale tapuscrite (2 feuillets), signée du directeur C. Vreeling, datée du 1er mars 1932, à destination de l'Imprimerie Bastiaire à Chamalières (63). Fondés en 1911, les établissements Plantin avaient pour but la fabrication et le commerce de tous articles employés dans l’industrie de l’imprimerie, notamment typographique et lithographique. A partir de 1920, ils édifièrent un important complexe industriel, fleuron de la société, rue de la Braie à Bruxelles, pour la fonte de caractères typographiques. Cette fabrique porta le nom de Plantin aux quatre coins du monde. ‎

Most of the exhibited books were shown in the Paris Art Deco exhibition in 1925. Very fine typography. The Goossens catalogue is of course printed by Goossens and has a preface by Henri Liebrecht. There are no library markings on the inside of the book. Top of title page with an old illegible note. Binding with some use , one small worm gallery in lower margin of lower cover, interior fine. Plantin reprinted the 1561 Lyons edition by Guillaume Rouillé of the Corpus Iuris Civilis, edited by the French lawyers Ludovicus Russardus ( Roussart ) and Franciscus Duarenius ( Douaren).
