‎Unique poster, printed on vellum in 1899, on the occasion of the festivities and an exhibition to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of the Antwerp painter Antoon van Dijck.‎

‎ Antwerpen, Plantin Press, October 1899, poster size 55 x 40 cm, printed in red and black with types and vignets of the Plantin-Moretus Museum. The document has a typographical border, printed in gilt, with floral motifs. The style of this border points to the Antwerp printer and publisher Buschmann. The poster (document) is printed as a gift of the organizing committee to August Beernaert to thank him for his support for the festivities. It bears the holograph signatures of Max Rooses (curator of the Plantin-Moretus Museum), Jan van Rijswijck (mayor of Antwerp) and Georges Caroly (art maecenas). August Beernaert (Oostende 1829 - Luzern 1912) was a Belgian catholic statesman . He was Belgium's prime minister from 1884 until 1894. He was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1909. He was an ardent art collector. The Plantin-Moretus museum opened in 1877. The first curator Max Rooses made frequently use of the typographical material of the former printing house to publish e.g suites of 16th or 17th engravings. Some of the items were of an ephemerical nature such as this unique poster printed on vellum.‎

Reliure à la Bradel de léditeur, en pleine toile noire, dos lisse et premier plat titrés à lor, filet à froid en encadrement des plats, tranches aubergines. XII, (1 f.), 106 pp., (I f.), 107-159 pp. (I f.), 160- 200 pp. (pagination continue), 3 pp. (supplément). Ouvrage multilingue : principalement en français, flamand et néerlandais mais aussi en anglais, allemand, espagnol et latin. Exemplaire enrichi d'une lettre commerciale tapuscrite (2 feuillets), signée du directeur C. Vreeling, datée du 1er mars 1932, à destination de l'Imprimerie Bastiaire à Chamalières (63). Fondés en 1911, les établissements Plantin avaient pour but la fabrication et le commerce de tous articles employés dans lindustrie de limprimerie, notamment typographique et lithographique. A partir de 1920, ils édifièrent un important complexe industriel, fleuron de la société, rue de la Braie à Bruxelles, pour la fonte de caractères typographiques. Cette fabrique porta le nom de Plantin aux quatre coins du monde. ‎

Bound in (18th c. ?) full calf, edges sprinkled red, title ( ''Plantin'') in gilt on spine , This title is a later addition to replace a missing label, number 35 in white wash on spine. There are no library markings on the inside of the book. Top of title page with an old illegible note. Binding with some use , one small worm gallery in lower margin of lower cover, interior fine. ( USTC 405368 ; Voet 1034 Vol. X). Plantin reprinted the 1561 Lyons edition by Guillaume Rouillé of the Corpus Iuris Civilis, edited by the French lawyers Ludovicus Russardus ( Roussart ) and Franciscus Duarenius ( Douaren). The work consists of 12 vols. in-8°. Vol. I-VII - the Digesta or Pandectae ; Vol. VIII - IX - the Codicis ; Vol X Novellae Constitutiones [ our present volume]. Rare complete catalogue of an exhibition organised in the Plantin-Moretus Museum of the typographical production of these two leading Belgian publishers. Most of the exhibited books were shown in the Paris Art Deco exhibition in 1925. Very fine typography. The Goossens catalogue is of course printed by Goossens and has a preface by Henri Liebrecht. Buschmann is printed by Buschmann."‎

‎ Anvers ( Antwerpen ) , G.Zazzarini éditeur, 1914, in-folio, 45 x 32 cm, (14) nn pp + 407 pp + (10) nn pp ( prospectus) + 37 plates h.t. with 59 copper engravings + 16 full page orig. woodcuts h.t. + 9 orig. culs-de-lampe + ca. 300 b/w ills. h.t. and in the text. (complete). This is copy 123 (out of 440) printed on high quality laid paper. Bound in a full leather (''veau d'Egypte brun''), both covers with intricate gilt and blind tooling. The gilt decoration consisting e.g. 4 rows of stylised peacock tails. Spine decorated with large floral motifs. Top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. Binding signed ''Berthe van Regemoorter'' . She was head of the bookbinding department of the famous institute for applied art ''Bois de la Cambre'' in Brussels. Binding with some minor damage at the lower end of the spine, overall some minor scratches, an unobtrusive discolouring in the form of a stain at the back cover. Notwithstanding these remarks still a good copy in an impressive binding. The book interior is very fine. Printed by the Antwerp master printer Buschmann, this is one of the 440 copies (printed after 60 handcoloured copies). Important, interesting and bibliophile publication in a unique edition on the history of the famous 16th century humanist printing press of Christopher Plantin and his successors who were active until 1876 when the premises, with the presses, the archives and the library became a museum. The museum is now a ''World Heritage'' site. A major interest of the book are the illustrations which were printed from the original copper plates and woodblocks which rest in the museum. They include etchings by Lucas van Leyden, Wierickx, the Galle family, Goltzius, Hogenberg, Pontius a.o. The illustrations were taken from famous publications such as Guicciardini's :''Discrittione di tutti i Paesi Bassi'', de la Serre's: ''Entrée de la Reyne-Mère du Roy très Chrestien dans les villes des Pays-Bas''.Title-pages designed by Rubens are also present. From the woodcuts we only mention 4 original chiaroscuro portrait prints by Goltzius from his : ''Icones Imperatorum, Antwerp, 1645 '' . The author Max Rooses was a famous art-historian and the first curator of the museum . Bibliographical note on the book. The book was printed in july 1914, war broke out in august , part of the publisher's shop, including some copies of this book, ( how many ??) were destroyed by German artillery in the autumn. Distribution started only in 1916. (see De Gulden Passer Yearbook 66-67 pp. 51-52.). Bibliographical note on the binding. In her study on the bindings of Berthe van Regemoorter ( E.Cockx-Indestege - N. Moerman, - Bib. Wittockiana, 2014) are listed 2 copies of this book bound by Regemoorter: Item R45 & item R166. Our copy could be this item 166. It is uncertain because the author could only identifiy the binding by some working notes of the binder. The spine decoration of our copy is simlar to item R48. (kept in a non-original box).‎

‎La Bible de Louvain est une traduction de la Bible produite à partir des textes en hébreu, araméen et grec publiée en français en 1550.Après avoir commissionné une traduction plus correcte que la Vulgate aux docteurs de Louvain, Charles Quint leur demande de produire des traductions française et néerlandaise. Nicolas van Winghe traduit lédition néerlandaise publiée en 1548. Nicolas de Leuze, se fondant sur les travaux de Jacques Lefèvre dÉtaples et Pierre Robert Olivétan, ainsi que sur l'édition latine de la Vulgate par Henten (1547), traduit lédition française publiée en 1550. Les deux traductions sont toutes les deux imprimées chez Barthélemy de Grave à Louvain.« En dépit d'une confusion fort répandue, la Bible louvaniste de 1550 n'est pas celle qui devint célèbre à la fin du siècle et le resta tout au cours du XVIIe siècle.
