Edizione londinese del 1782 di questa raccolta di opere di Alexis Piron (1689-1773) poeta e drammaturgo francese. Definito da Saint-Beuve come la personificazione dell'allegria e del mimetismo, esercitò le sue doti di epigrammista mordace contro i letterati della sua epoca tra i quali Voltaire. L'opera è composta da tre tomi ed è completa. All'interno: Vita dell'autore, Epitres, allegories, Odes, Poemes, Fables, La metromanie, Poesies diverses, Chansons, Contes, Epigrammes etc.. Ma la verà particolarità di questo esemplare è il "fore-edge painting" o "disegno a scomparsa", un dipinto sul taglio delle pagine che appare solamente tenendo il blocco di pagine tra il pollice e il resto delle dira e piegandolo in modo da allargare leggermente il bordo. Da chiuso il volume sembra un normalissimo libro dai tagli dorati. Questo rende quest'opera unica. Questa tecnica era molto popolare verso il XVIII secolo per raggiungere il suo culmine fino all'inizio del XX secolo. Il disegno mostra un paesaggio animato con abitazioni, persone in cammino e greggi; un lago con persone che pescano. In ottime condizioni. Copertina in piena pelle coeva con titolo e decorazioni in oro al dorso in ottime condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in buone condizioni. All'interno le pagine si presentano in ottime condizioni con rare fioriture. In 24. Dim. 12,5x8 cm. Pp. Leather coeval cover with gilted title and decorations in the edges and spine in very good general conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Binding in good conditions. PIRON, Alexis: Ecrivain français, il fut le meilleur auteur d'épigrammes de son siècle (oeuvres badines, 1796). Il écrivit bien d'autres oeuvres, non sans intérêt, mais un péché de jeunesse, une Ode à Priape exhumée par la Chaussée et l'abbé d'Olivet, lui ferma les portes de l'Académie française.
