‎ Très belle estampe gravée figurant les restes des chambres funéraires des affranchis et des esclaves de la famille d'Auguste, de la série Le Antichità Romane. Au travers de son oeuvre, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, dit Le Piranèse, a réussi comme personne à sublimer l'Antiquité. Peu d'artistes ont été aussi laborieux, aussi infatigables. "II n'a point eu d'égal, dit Fériés, pour le talent avec lequel il dessinait l'architecture et les ruines, et le XVIIIème siècle n'a pas de graveur plus pittoresque." Piranesi a exécuté au burin et à l'eau-forte environ 1,700 planches. Bel exemplaire.‎

Veneto di origine, si trasferì a Roma dove, affascinato dalle bellezze della città eterna, iniziò la produzione delle "Vedute di Roma". Titolo firma e data in basso a destra nell'inciso. Purtroppo l'incisione è stata eccesivamente rifilata al margine destro e sinistro che risulta priva di margini. Bellissima prova ricca di toni impressa su carta pesante. Piegatura verticale. ‎Bel état de conservation. Ouvrage orné de 69 illustrations reproduites en phototypie sur 35 planches. L'Oeuvre de Piranesi se compose de 29 volumes in-folio, contenant près de 2000 pièces. Armand Guérinet reproduit ici au complet et intégralement le Volume XX, intitulé CHEMINÉES, qui contient 69 planches dont quatre protent des numéros irréguliers. Toutes ces cheminées et meubles sont composés dans le genre égyptien, grec et romain; dans un grand nombre on voit poindre le germe de la réaction qui va donner naissance au style Louis XVI et au style Premier Empire. Les autres volumes contiennent des vases et candélabres antiques, des frises, des chapiteaux et des fragments d'architecture et d'antiquités romaines, des vues de Rome et d'Italie, des ruines, des intérieurs de prisons, etc. L'oeuvre de Piranesi est immense.
