PAUL HUVENNE Op 8 november 1948 besloten Asger Jorn, Christian Dotremont, Joseph Noiret, Constant, Karel Appel en Corneille in een Parijs caf om het vertoog La cause tait entendue van Dotremont te onderschrijven. CoBrA, een acroniem voor Copenhague, Bruxelles en Amsterdam, werd de naam van hun beweging. Tegenwoordig wordt Cobra beschouwd als een belangrijk momentum in de kunstgeschiedenis, ook internationaal. Met het Frans als voertaal was Cobra zo goed als de laatste authentieke Europese beweging binnen het modernisme. Daarna nam, in het kielzog van de economie, de cultuurhegemonie van de Verenigde Staten het over. Dit boek vertelt het verhaal van de beweging aan de hand van diepgaande essays van onder meer Paul Huvenne, Han Sizoo, Johan Pas, Hilde De Bruijn, Franz Wilhem Kaiser en Laura Stamps. Daarnaast worden tientallen representatieve werken uit de topcollectie van The Phoebus Foundation getoond.
