Précieuse relation du premier voyage de Parry (1790-1855) à la recherche du passage du Nord-Ouest. Cette légendaire expédition constitue la première exploration importante de l'Arctique. Durant ce périple, Parry cartographia des centaines de kilomètres de côtes et nomma, par exemple, le détroit de Barrow, la crique du Prince Regent (Prince Regent Inlet), le canal de Wellington (Wellington Channel) et, bien entendu, plusieurs des îles Parry (aujourdhui, Îles de la Reine-Élisabeth). Ce voyage, traduit de l'anglais par Defauconpret, fut entrepris pour découvrir un passage du nord-ouest de l'océan Atlantique à la mer Pacifique. William Edward Parry (1790-1855), amiral de la Royal Navy, avait fait un premier voyage, en 1818, dans la baie de Baffin (pôle Arctique).
